I don't know if this is a good idea or not. But it occurred to me today that there's not much activity in the Transgender Forum anymore... hasn't been for some time now. And even some of the posts that do show up there aren't strictly speaking in keeping with the description that's in the index:

"Emotional support & information for people who are transgender or are other-gender. Trans, nonbinary & questioning only."

So I wondered whether it might be worthwhile to consider transforming the Transgender forum into the LGBTQ forum. It would still be a forum for trans individuals to post in. But it would open it up to others in the LGBTQ community as well. I know there is an LGBT club. But, of course, that's only available to club members. And it doesn't seem to be particularly active either at present. Anyway, this was just a thought... something I thought I would put out there for consideration. Thanks for reading!

One thing I'm not sure about with regard to this is whether the acronym "LGBTQ" is sufficiently all-inclusive or if, perhaps, it might leave someone out. It would be good to hear from some members who are knowledgeable with regard to if "LGBTQ" would be an appropriate title for the forum (assuming that is the way it might be titled were the change to be implemented) or if there is some better, more appropriate option.

I'd personally rather see LGBTQIA or LGBT+ so it obviously includes intersex and asexual individuals who tend to get erased and excluded frequently in otherwise accepting spaces. I don't know about how it is in this forum, but I know a lot of ace, demi, and gray-sexual people.

@Ember_42

Good idea. I personally think adding the plus would suffice since it indicates inclusivity to all sexual orientations and the like instead of just adding every letter imaginable.

I’ve heard the term QUILTBAG and you could always add a + to it too. I just think it’s a cute version of the longer acronym.

I think merging them is a bad idea. My daughter is trans, and gay men and "butch" lesbians can be some of the most cruel of all toward trans people. But what do I know- apparently youve merged the boards already.

YES , Sorry Doc , but I strongly object to this change.

None of us are "Queer " , today in modern times more often than not the "Q" has been dropped.

If you can`t bring back the so very important transgender forum , pleas remove the "Q" ------ LGBT , there are no queers.

Lets help end the stigma , not add to it , thank you .

What an awful and hateful thing to say about people protesting for equal rights and the freedom to be WHO THEY WERE BORN TO BE.

A suggestion was made about changing the name of a forum and feedback was solicited for that name change. The suggested name was in keeping with widely-used and -accepted terminology, and so the change was accepted. While I certainly appreciate everyone's feedback, a change of name doesn't change the focus or intent of the forum whatsoever. I'd encourage people to look beyond labels, whether they be for diagnosis or gender or something else. Nobody is their label.

Since the change was made, this thread is being closed as the discussion over the name change is over.
