To protect the safety of especially vulnerable persons with mental disorders, and to keep this online community safe, I think it is important that we have legal rights, supports, and resources available, in addition to telling administration about potential cyberbullying, cyber-harassment, or other forms of cybercrimes.
Having this information up can also deter some (not all) potential cybercrime offenders. |

While you're welcomed to report cyberbullying through any of those links (which may or may not result in some action), the best thing for a member to do to report bullying behavior on Psych Central (and to get much quicker action) is to report the post or member via the reporting mechanisms we have here in our community. As long as the behavior happened within the PC community (forums, VMs, PMs, or chat), we can look into it further and take action as appropriate.
If you choose to engage with a member outside of our platform, then you are taking on the responsibility for your relationship with that member independently of Psych Central. We cannot do anything about behavior that takes place off of the Psych Central website, even if it was with another member, since we have no way of verifying what transpired. That's why we encourage members to stick to the community with your interactions, until and unless you completely and 100% trust the person you're interacting with. __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

By the way, nothing's happened to me online HERE in terms of cybercrimes, but I can see how easily it could escalate. In the distal past, I had a person stalking me, and I had to contact the authorities to report harassment. It ended quickly, but not before that person tried to damage me. I just don't ever ever EVER want that to happen to me again. And if it does, I will report it within the legal realms, that is, if it is justafiably a crime or unlawful (non-criminal) act.
That said, I do my best to abide by rules, and sometimes we make mistakes, but when I see certain people not abiding by rules, which I take to be my own personal boundaries as well, I will report (because I don't like engaging or enabling rule-breakers who continuously create problems and cannot control themselves). I'm not perfect, and I know no one is, but when I see something problematic, I take it up the chain of command. And if it persists, I warn nicely, escalate my warnings if safe to do so, and finally contact authorities when I've exhausted all resources. Thankfully, I've not had to do that in over a decade. I don't want to have to do that again, but I take precautions. Having links at my fingertips, and sharing these protective factors with others - so as to help the community be aware of what they can do should it happen, or to hopefully serve as a deterrant, then yes, I will share these links for more than my own benefit. |
