I come to psych central for a kind of community/place of safety---what is with all the sudden advertisements interrupting my experience? If I can't get away from them I will have to leave the site and this would sadden me.

Without some basic information about your experience -- using the web or Tapatalk? logged in or not? -- we can't provide much further information. We've made zero changes on how advertisements display here and haven't for years. Sometimes Tapatalk might change something with regards to advertising, but we can usually fix that.

Hi!
thanks for mentioning this topic. I have been meaning to mention this, too.

My concern is with the ads sometimes located within a member's post. I am wondering if it's possible to change this?

I am logged in when I see this, using Edge, no Tapatalk.

Respectfully, WC

I have also experienced this when logged in, not on Tapatalk. Only once though.

I have experienced this as well. It was while logged in, reading a thread and the responses. It has only happened two or three times, but there were an excessive amount of ads (one or two ads after every individual response).

Wow, I haven't seen any. Maybe because I just use a laptop computer?

I use a PC laptop, with Windows 10 Professional. I've used both Google Chrome and AVG Secure Web Browsers. On neither have I ever seen ads within threads. I have seen them as banners at the top of the home page. And Tapatalk is rife with ads again, but I recognize it as a function of using a free app.

@winter4me could you expand upon the browser you're using or whether or not it's using the Tapatalk app? I believe you can upgrade the Tapatalk app to an ad-free version, but that requires a payment. Tapatalk is not created or run by PC, it's a third-party app that numerous web forums connect to for mobile phone browsing.

I wonder if this is either a Tapatalk issue or perhaps something with your browser?

Hope this is helpful. With more information I'm sure the admin team can help figure out what's going on.

A possible reason for your seeing these ads may be because your PC's cookies were retained when you visited some of those sites, or likely those who had online association with those sites. When they recognised you were visiting even briefly, they requested you agree to their cookies, ie. by clicking "I agree", you gave cyber-consent. So when you visit forums such as PC here, any spaces in-between posts and topics will reveal advertising.

I don't use Windows 10 (thankfully yet). I am still using Windows 7. Therefore with regret, I wouldn't know how you would adjust your browser on '10'. But I hope your problem soon goes.

I have switched to entering on edge and, for now the ads are not popping up as they did with google chrome ---- I had never had the problem before and it unnerved me a bit...I like to believe this is just PC, for us, not for someone's "buy this"...not usually paranoid but I find myself wondering if "they" are collecting data from PC members...
(I prefer to be low tech----being older, having lived off the grid for a fair part of my adult life, not a tv person...the ads feel intrusive and are definitely not wanted.

Are you able to get a screenshot of the ads in the threads? That might help the admin team see what is going on and exactly what you are seeing.

If you're seeing similar ads everywhere using your Chrome browser it may be infected with malware.

How odd. I never see ads. I use a desk-top PC, Windows 10, firefox or google chrome. I think I might have seen a banner ad at the top of home page, but I never pay attention to it.

I'm on Windows 10, using the Microsoft Edge browser when I see the ads. I don't believe that it's got anything to do with the browser storing cookies in my case, because I restored the computer to factory default right before I joined PC, and I've only ever visited PC since it was restored. In addition, to cover my tracks (hide my browsing history) from my abuser (husband), I have my browser set to delete my history and cookies every time a tab is closed.

That being said, I've never had an advertisement when on Tapatalk using my android phone.

I'll install firefox on my computer this afternoon and start using that to see if the ads continue to show up, or they disappear.
Thanks for this!

Hi @Anxiety Princess

Sorry I'm late answering, but the last couple of days have been very taxing at work.

Once you install Firefox, go to this page called Adblock Plus where you can add this splendid extension.

Adblock Plus – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-GB)

The version is 3.7
The size takes up 1.25MB
Last updated 22 October 2019

A great plus is you can block video ads on sites like YouTube.

Happy New Year to you!
