In my profile visitor place, visitor messages are arriving with only their avatars & without their user names. Do I have a problem, or is this something new?

That's because you've set your custom background color of your profile page to the same color used to display the usernames. If you use your mouse to highlight a whole bunch of text on that page, you can see them.
Change your background color to something else in your profile to get them back.
