"members should not speak of past members" does it mean we cant even say the username of a member who left?

What if we say a word that used to be the username of aember without even knowing that word was once a username?

Sorry i just asking out of confusion and not wanting to do wrong

I am sure if you randomly say someone’s name snd it happened to be a former member, whom you don’t even know, you’ll be ok. Again mistakes are normal. This rule discourages deliberate gossiping about past members

Its just that that situation happened on another forum years ago that I remember happening, a member there got banned for multiple accounts, then months later someone else said quite innocently "just getting another blanket" or something along those lines (the banned member was called blanket), admin there got furious and went after that member publically when that particular member had no idea anyone had had that username, by "blanket" they literally meant a blanket, not the banned member

just so its clear, this happened on a different forum, not this forum or any mental health site

I don't want that situation to happen here, me saying a word innocently (not even being aware that a member ever had that as a username) then what i saw happen elsewhere happen here, this time to me

Do us members have to understand everything in the terms of use link thats linked in the rules?

this is the link: Terms of Use | Help and Heal Mental Health Fund

i havent yet finished reading it all, theres some stuff in there that i dont understand already

a example: "foraging any TCP/IP packet header" - just one example of what i dont understand from the link

willowtigger not wanting to get into a trouble for not understanding stuff and as a result doing the wrong thing due to not understanding what it was talking about

I think if you make an innocent mistake it’ll be okay, maybe sometimes a post will get removed or edited, but I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.

"You agree that your account may be terminated at any time, without notice"

I'm understanding that to mean we can get thrown out just cause the staff decide they don't want a member here, even if that member has done nothing against the rules, thats how I'm reading/understanding that

"These Terms and Conditions will be binding upon and will injure to the benefit of the parties, their successors and permitted assigns."

who's it injuring and why

There is no “staff” there is no us vs them, this is a support site.

I doubt if ANYBODY, even lawyers, understands the always long, confusing, and tedious TAC Terms and Conditions or TOS Terms of Service on ANY website, app, service, etc. Yet unless you click accept or understand you can’t go any farther or use the site or app.

Hopefully someday these things will be in plain English so to speak and not 100 pages long. I don’t think many people read them, even half of them.

Members need to abide first and foremost by the community guidelines. While you also need to technically abide by the terms of use for our site as well, they are there mostly for legal reasons, to allow us to operate the website according to our needs as well as the needs of our members.

While I understand willow that things happened to you another website many, many years ago, we ask that you base your expectations on OUR website on how you've been treated here, now. By both your fellow members and by your interactions with our community support team. You have never "been in trouble" here, and we have told you on many occasions that if something were to come up here, you will be warned first via PM.

I don't know how much more clear I can be regarding this issue about you "getting into trouble."

ok so we're not expected (us members i mean) to understand whats in the terms of service? Was about to go back into them to read them again and see if I can figure them out but if we're not expected to read and understand them all, then I'll not go back into it to read them all again cause i don't have much brainpower (assuming i got a brain) today

All users of every website online are expected to have read and understood that site’s terms of service before using that website. Us included. Does that mean most people go through and read the hundreds of terms of services from sites we all visit? No. But I have to say user behavior here is governed by the terms of use just as your behavior on every website you visit is governed by their terms of use.

As I’ve said, we generally ask members to focus on the community guidelines. I don’t think there’s much benefit spending hours dissecting our terms of use here, or expending much energy on them, because, as I’ve said, they are primarily there for legal reasons to allow us to operate the site and community as needed.
