Just wondering: how do we know if a report thing has gone through? When im reporting anything, elsewhere it says something along the lines of "thank you for reporting" but here it seems when the report window thing gets filled in (when i have used the report button here) when i click send it just goes straight back to the thread

So i am never sure if it actually sent or not

Cause sometimes i get a weird error message (not seen it recently though) ?

Reporting stuff

You could try sending a pm to a moderator if you don’t hear back in a few days.

Unless you get an error message, we have received your report. Because of the amount of reports and because we are all volunteers here, I’m sorry we can’t provide you any update on your report, privately or otherwise. If something was found to violate community guidelines by our team, rest assured action is taken.

Willow, it would be nice to get feedback on reports but Doc John is right. Mods and admins are volunteers. They already do so much. Not fair to dump more on them.

I didn’t know they were volunteers so wasn’t implying, earlier, they should do MORE work for crying out loud! I just know from experience that technology has glitches and just cause you don’t get an error message doesn’t mean it didn’t happen!

It’s perfectly valid to wonder if something got received, I feel that way too.

You’re not a pain, you have been kind to me and your posts are funny sometimes too, like ones about Google! .

Willow, I understand your frustration wondering if a report went through. The few times one I made did not go through I got an error message. If I end up wondering if it went through I will go read the post I reported to see if anything changed.

Hun, you are not a pain in anyone's arse or any other body part.

Willow dear, you are just looking to be heard. We all need that.

Your member name reminds me of a character name Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer! One of my favorite shows and characters.

Another forum I go to, i like to joke in the report button window thing cause it makes the staff there laugh, like joking when a spams gets posted that the local friendly spammer population is back, not sure if joking like that would upset and anger the staff here, something i'm trying to not do

I like to joke too, but i would not just joke in the report box. To me that just causes more work to people who already have too much work.

If i have to write something in a report box anyway, like asking to lock a thread, or noting something really against guidelines, then i make sure my true meaning is not lost among my cuteness.

i havent seen spams in posts here, for the record

ok so here, its wanted that i say exactly what i mean, in the report button box thing?

for example: if something happened in a thread, a short "XYZ has happened in here" is what they would prefer, instead of joking around about whatever happened?

Willowtigger I've wished for the same thing re follow up from mods. This thread is helpful to me too. I'm glad DocJohn explained. I'm glad you asked! It helped me too.

I have a different question about reporting.

Does the report include info about who sent it or should we sign it?

I think its like a text or dm - everything is tagged with your username.

This is one of the great mysteries of the web - do we sign an email when it says who its from? And who decides? Kids who never heard of etiquette!

I think it attaches both usernames - the member reporting it and the member who is getting reported, although how the staff know who is reporting and who is being reported, don't ask me that one cause i'll probably get it wrong

thats something admin probably can answer (if its not a admin secret so shh willowtigger before you get yelled at by admin for mentioning admin secrets)

for the record: willowtigger does not know any admin secrets, please dont do anything to her for being suspected of knowing any cause she does not know any

the only time there's one person is when someone is reporting their own post - like if they realised they posted in the wrong place or whatever

You don't need to sign a report, any more than you need to sign your posts. Each report generates a message to the Community Support Team (moderators and administrators) that lizardlady (for example) has reported a particular post, and what reason she gave for reporting it.

Here's the form and instructions that I see after I click on the Reporting stuff icon:

Reporting stuff

ETA: It turns out that on a phone I see somewhat less information.

When I use the Report function from my phone I get the same result that you describe. The screenshot that I posted was from a desktop computer with (of course) a much bigger screen.

Probably someone reported it or the mods/admin found it and decided to move it

The time to worry is if it completely disappears and you get a pm screaming and yelling and threatening at you, i remember those despite a screwy memory (not here) those types of pm are the ones to run and hide from

Hiding under here means they cant get you
