Sometimes I just put people on my ignore because i see with their thinking & responses to others that I am not interested getting involved with them... nothing they have specifically done to me & I am guessing others do that to me. A reminder not to respond so as not to get into a heated debate......& the ignore keeps that from happening

I have looked through mine & many on it haven't even been on MSF for years but are still members. I just leave it alone....no big deal

I leave mine be, because even though some haven't even been on here in a long time, they could not only come back but under a different name. If they change their name, I won't recognize it. This way if I leave it alone, they are still on the list.

As far as I know you can't make it do this automatically. You have to check manually.

I'd rather not chance it, if someone was/is triggering why assume they might not be anymore just because time has passed? Basically a leopard doesn't change their spots and I speak from experience, not just online but in the real world. Plus since I can no longer see if someone even posted in a thread, I've got caught off guard suddenly when an ignored member is quoted. Personally, I liked the old way, when I saw "This message is hidden because ______ is on your ignore list". I then thought, "Oh no, scroll carefully........."

Thats exactly what im trying to say. People come here to better themselves and improve their relationships etc etc etc.

What brought the idea to mind is, often (this happened today, but ive seen it before too), someone feels bad that no one responded to them. Well maybe my time-out on the naughty step has taught me a lesson. Let me apologize and lets see how it goes.

I pretty much cant put anyone on ignore because im kinda semi-hist(e/o)rically responsible for a thread in the psychotherapy section, so its been a lesson in not hating at whim, for me.

I realize this does not apply to all scenarios of ignore.

This discussion might even be enough to encourage people to revisit their lists.

For me, I don't want to know what they are saying, that's the point of ignore. BUT I don't like how I won't read the post of the person quoting the ignored, because I won't know what they are referring to. To do that I have to read the "blocked" post now visible, because it was quoted.

A member I miss who hasn't been on here in months once said not to take people's posts that seriously. Hard to do a lot of times.

I can't win.

Its a hard thing to "win" tbh, for me if I see his posts and if he was to say anything nasty about me, I'd likely get triggered (so I scroll past his posts without reading them at all) cause someone saying something nasty doesn't feel good - I think everyone can understand how being on the recieving end of something nasty does not feel good, but if I was to have him on ignored I'd get paranoid over whether he's saying anything horrible, like if he was to say that I remote controlled the brain cancers to get into Ebony's brain and into her chest and tummy (for all I know he might be posting stuff like that, I have no idea nowadays) so I'd have to open his posts to make sure he wasn't saying anything about Ebony

idk i forgot what I'm saying now, my brain's too scrambled, idk if this even makes sense

edited to say if i can: I do know though that the message that comes up (on any forum) that starts off saying the post is held back to get checked by a moderator or something, I do know from experience that message starts to say horrible things after a while about how Ebony died, its done it before every time i been put in it on any forum, then I don't get listened to over it saying cruel stuff like that and just get told that I'm making it up, or "no its not saying that, end of discussion" idk i can't win with that either cause if I freak out and become seriously unwell it says it even more, but if I don't post I don't get out of it

if it gets put on me here, it'll either say cruel stuff about Ebony like everywhere else has, or it'll say Tigger has asthma (she might have, she's seeing the vet next week) and then say that Tigger's asthma will turn into a cancers cause Ebony got a cancers and the vet thought it was her asthma until he had her in to see what was going on when the steroids failed her, with hindsite I'm wondering now if the steroids made the cancers get hold a lot faster, or maybe asthma turns into cancers idk

i might be off topic now idk i don't have a brain today

I think it’s also important to remember that many times being put on ignore isn’t personal, sometimes it can be because a member finds certain posts/topics triggering to them, rather than a member doing anything wrong.

Just a reminder, this is a thread about the new ignore manager feature. Please don’t take this thread off-topic. We have the ignore feature for people’s own self-care. It does not mean anything ‘bad’ if they place another member on ignore and we shouldn’t try and read into other people’s intentions. Thank you.

Okay well then.....The Ignore Thread feature doesn't work on the Christmas thread on the top of the screen, above the link about BetterHelp. It only works in the forums. I noticed it closed in the forums.

(Sorry Trav, if you're reading this but I had to speak up, let the chips fall where they may. I'm counting the days until it's over and I know I speak for others on here.)

I'd assume this would happen for any other thread that happens, for whatever reason, to end up at the top of the screen. And it appears on EVERY screen, no matter what.

Why can’t you click on the “X” that closes the announcement?

I don’t know if settings have changed but I was able to go into thread tools on the thread you mention and put it on ignore and it’s not appearing at the top of my page now.

Yes you can click the cross to the right without going into the thread to ignore it and it’ll disappear but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to hold as soon as the page is refreshed when browsing it reappears so that’s not a good fix. Putting it on ignore seems to have solved it.

I think it’s a good point Owl because we know how triggering a time of year this is to so many, again no disrespect to the thread starter, everyone’s needs are different.

THANK YOU for saying this, as that X either WAS NOT THERE AT THE TIME I LOOKED ON DECEMBER 15th, 2023 @5:50 pm or it was so far to the upper right corner and so tiny that it wasn't even noticeable enough. That part of the screen already is crowded with links that nothing stands out. It's already on ignore for me, but thanks for warning me it could still reappear when closing it, just like an ad.

Oh, I KNOW this is triggering for some people. It's the only thing I'm certain of other than death and taxes. I know people both in real life and online who are counting the days.......or hours.

Yes they can. Ignore feature only works one way unless both have each other on ignore

Before one couldn't reply to their post if they had you on ignore.....just wondering what the point of them seeing those posts if you can't reply to them & not know you are on their ignore until you try to reply?

True but we don’t reply to every post anyways, it’s ok to read or not read it as you don’t have to look at their posts after you discovered they have you on ignore.
