Under "My Profile," you'll now see a new category of tools called "Ignore Manager."

This includes:
- Ignore list
- Ignore threads
- Ignore forums
- Settings

Now when you place another member on your Ignore List, you will automatically not see any threads they start. We've also changed it so you won't see posts from members on your Ignore List.

You can also ignore entire threads that you don't want to keep seeing. Under "Thread Tools" in any thread you're in, you just choose "Ignore this thread." This lets you ignore threads without having to put the person on your Ignore List.

You can also ignore entire forums that you don't want to see. Go to the forum you want to ignore and under "Forum Tools," you'll see "Ignore this forum." (This feature replicates an existing feature that allowed you to remove forums from your default homepage display. Either will work.)

Settings lets you change the settings of this new feature. (You can also specify tags of threads you don't want to see, but since most people don't use tags on their threads or posts, this probably won't really do anything.)

Hope this helps!

Oooh, I really like the option of ignoring threads. Every once in awhile there's a thread title that brings up old stuff for me. I've been just quickly scrolling past. It will be nice to have the option to just not have it appear.

Thanks Doc John for once again listening to members and working to provide what they ask for.

That’s awesome. Thank you! Some stuff is deeply disturbing and hard to avoid if it pops up in recent posts/new posts. Excellent

It's been a long time coming, and the idea of ignoring threads is great too. I never knew what "tags" are for so never used that.

What a relief..Before it was like walking through a field with mines, walking like eggshells trying to avoid stepping on any of them.

That is awesome, DocJohn, thanks! I find some stuff very disturbing and hard to ignore when it keeps popping up.

I completely relate to this, owl. The ignoring of threads is something I would have ''loved'' to have had some time ago also. Now is good though.... mine fields and egg shells.......................

Ok i think i broke it, it says about ignored threads by members on your ignored list, i think i have got my head around what it means, the boxes on there dont seem to work though, unless its my phone again (probably) i cant use the boxes, if i can get back in there on the laptop after work will try on laptop, not sure if im doing anything wrong, or if its my phone, or if others cannot select and unselect in the boxes

Its in the settlings at the bottom of the ignored manager list thing

I discovered, sadly, that someone on ignore is still visible if someone else QUOTES them. So tread carefully still, my friends.....The minefield is still around.

I got a question about it now: if one member chooses to take another member off of ignored, does the forum tell that member that they have been taken off of ignored?

Didn't want to be starting a new thread cause it would probably get sent here, idk

Nope to the best of my knowledge the forum doesn’t have such types of notifications.

ok I'm just wondering cause it seems strange that I took someone off of ignore and they seem to be responding to my posts without actually quoting me, I've seen two posts so far where they done it

if it makes them happy then fine, i'm just mentally ignoring them without having them on the list
Thanks for this!

It’s because YOU are not on their ignore list, so they can respond to and view your posts. But you can’t view their posts, unless quoted by someone. People don’t know you have them on ignore unless they try to post in YOUR threads. Then they get a message, “you are on this member’s ignore list”.

Now you don’t see threads started by people on your ignore list, a new feature I like.

I have a question

Can you ignore a thread by someone, but not a reply?

For example, let's say that a member always creates a thread about a triggering topic, but, when you post your own thread, the replies from said member are quite useful

I am not sure I completely understand the ignore thread command. Are you saying that I can ignore all threads with certain keywords

Since the reply is part of the thread, I don't think so.

If you have someone on ignore, as I understand it now, you can't even see the threads they start. It's like they are not there, if you visit a forum. If you click on "see all thread started by _____" under statistics, you'll get an error message. I don't know if you can use keywords but that's a good idea.

Also, if you start your own thread, anyone on ignore can't post in your thread....because you have them on ignore. If they try, they'll get a message saying "You are on this member's ignore list".

For other threads, you used to be able to see "This post is hidden because ____ is on your ignore list" but now you don't even see that. BUT if someone quotes them, you will see it unfortunately.

I found a loophole to this. If you want to see the ignored persons posts, click on one of their hugs or thanks on somebody who isnt on your ignored list. That will bring you to the ignored persons profile and you can see stuff that way. If you want to be nosy.

Just a thought on the ignore list -

Maybe it could be like a Time-Out Step, where we go to think about how we acted.

Some people never let anyone off of their ignored list - ever

My suggestion for it is every now and again, could the software thing make people check through their list? That way, they remember to check their ignored list every now and again and anyone they no longer find triggering, they then remember to let them off of the list

Sometimes I just put people on my ignore because i see with their thinking & responses to others that I am not interested getting involved with them... nothing they have specifically done to me & I am guessing others do that to me. A reminder not to respond so as not to get into a heated debate......& the ignore keeps that from happening

I have looked through mine & many on it haven't even been on MSF for years but are still members. I just leave it alone....no big deal

I leave mine be, because even though some haven't even been on here in a long time, they could not only come back but under a different name. If they change their name, I won't recognize it. This way if I leave it alone, they are still on the list.

As far as I know you can't make it do this automatically. You have to check manually.

I'd rather not chance it, if someone was/is triggering why assume they might not be anymore just because time has passed? Basically a leopard doesn't change their spots and I speak from experience, not just online but in the real world. Plus since I can no longer see if someone even posted in a thread, I've got caught off guard suddenly when an ignored member is quoted. Personally, I liked the old way, when I saw "This message is hidden because ______ is on your ignore list". I then thought, "Oh no, scroll carefully........."

Thats exactly what im trying to say. People come here to better themselves and improve their relationships etc etc etc.

What brought the idea to mind is, often (this happened today, but ive seen it before too), someone feels bad that no one responded to them. Well maybe my time-out on the naughty step has taught me a lesson. Let me apologize and lets see how it goes.

I pretty much cant put anyone on ignore because im kinda semi-hist(e/o)rically responsible for a thread in the psychotherapy section, so its been a lesson in not hating at whim, for me.

I realize this does not apply to all scenarios of ignore.

This discussion might even be enough to encourage people to revisit their lists.
