Moderators added at the end of old threads that this is an old thread and you might want to refrain from replying. It’s a new thing. They just added it. It might help.

Sometimes people say that replies to old threads might still be useful. Sure, if it’s a generic discussion.

Not if it’s specific question. Like if someone asked for advice about their divorce fifteen years ago, how is it helpful to advise them years later when they married someone else already ten years ago. It’s irrelevant. Or if I asked advice about my kids’ school and someone replied 10 years later when my kids are long adults and have their own children. How is that helpful?

People look for old threads for whatever reason and it’s fine. Just no need to reply

Why not just skip over old threads that are "reborn"? While threads might be old the information might be relevant for someone today.

Its just sometimes people reply to threads from years ago with very triggering information in it where the person was asking for help. Who knows if it makes the OP upset again.

If it’s a generic type of thread, sure. If a person asked a specific question about their specific question, replying to it ten years later not only is not relevant but is potentially triggering. If someone asks about their relative ten years ago and a relative has been dead for ten years, how advising what to do about that relative is useful? It is not.

Exactly . That’s my point. It’s triggering. Like I had a thread about my mom in hospice years ago. I sure don’t need an advice now when she passed years ago. Why would others want to find some relevance to their life in my upsetting situation so many years later? Makes no sense

True... The original poster can ask the thread be closed so nobody can post in it again. That's the only thing I can think of to stop it.

Otherwise, any open thread is fair game to me. And I think there's still links at the very bottom for threads with similar subjects. Then people post in those too, even if they are years old. I've even seen threads from members who are no longer active here even.

Maybe the site can be set so anything after a certain time frame gets purged, but Liz makes a good point that it could be helpful to someone. It's a tough call, really. We are all different, some like old threads revived, some don't, some don't care one way or another.

Or the "ignore thread" feature can be used, under ignore options. The only caveat is that it still shows up in the main index list of forums.

Since everyone's idea of "old" is different, it's a tough call. And for me personally, the dates are so tiny they are hard to see, even with my glasses and especially on a phone, which is what I have to use mostly. I focus on content and thread titles, not dates. If I see something I want to post in, I do so.

I could think of dozens of scenarios, such as the OP not being active for months or even years, but since the "post reply" button is there, someone will post in it. Hence, active again but maybe the OP has no clue. But others see it, which may or may not be good....it all depends on the member.

I find i have to use the "two-finger zoom" or expand more often, now that my right eye has a bad cataract due to detached retina surgery a year ago. On my phone.
