Hi all -

Have installed OJ and love it! Except for one thing (there's always something, isn't there?) - the time it displays for posting is off by 4 hours. For example, I posted an entry on 8/31 at 8pm (my time), and it shows up under 9/1 as 12am (oj time).

Can someone please tell me exactly what I need to change to get the correct time instituted? I am not a cgi programmer so as much detail as possible would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

lanth

Hi Lanth,

When you log in to this site you have an option up top that links you to <font color=blue>My Profile</font color=blue>.

Click on that. It will come up with your settings available to you as a member here.

You should see the options of:
<font color=blue>Personal information, email, password, etc.</font color=blue> <font color=purple>edit</font color=purple>
<font color=blue>Display preferences, number of shown threads, languages, colors...</font color=blue> <font color=purple>edit</font color=purple>
<font color=blue>Subscribe / Unsubscribe from receiving board posts by email, change message notifications, etc.</font color=blue> <font color=purple>edit</font color=purple>

The Display Preferences option is the one that allows you to set the time for where you are in relation to the Open Journal server..........which I think is EST (not sure).

When you open up the Display Preferences you'll see this with a box below to enter your adjusted time:
Current server time is: Thu Sep 2 13:10:55 2004
Choose your time offset in hours (..,-2,-1,0,1,2,..)

For me in California I entered in -3 as I am three hours behind the server time.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and when I am NOT logged in all times displayed on threads and posts are default server time.

Hello ZH and thank you for getting back to me. Unfortunately I seem to have misstated my problem - I am talking about the time that shows up on my journal, not it's support forum. On the index page where the journal entries are listed, the display showing 'time posted' displays a time that is off by 4 hours.

My journal is at www.bluesplace.net/oj if you want to see the problem. I title each entry with the date and time I begin writing, so the difference is readily apparent.

Hope you can still help!

Nah you didn't misstate anything...........you clarified what the issue was.

I misunderstood the issue.

Hmm.........when it comes to setting your time with OJ that goes beyond my limited abilities.

You're in the right forum for an answer! Now it is merely a matter of someone answering who knows this stuff.

Have faith.......this is a good place. Sorry that I can't help but glad that you've found the OJ to help you!!

Take care.

You'll have to edit your oj.pl file and find the two lines near the top of the file that look like:

require "oj.cfg";
require "auth.pl";

Add this line immediately after those two lines:

$ENV{"TZ"} = "PST8PDT";

Let me know if that works or not...

Hey Doc

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately it didn't work. Just did a test post and the time showing is still ahead by 4 hours. Not a big deal though - I put the date and time up there myself anyways. Fwiw, I'm on EST/EDT.

Since I have your attention, just wanted to say a big thanks for writing the oj program and making it freely available! This was exactly what I wanted when searching for a journal program.

No problem... Try this instead:

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>
$ENV{"TZ"} = "EST5EDT";
</pre><hr />

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
