Do you know the exact message you're getting?

I know Com3 has something to do with ports or internet or something like that... but if you're able to post, then maybe it isn't a big problem? Have you noticed anything happening beyond the message?

it's just a little traffic light icon in my start up tray and i hover over it, it says com3 disconnected...that's it. as for noticing anything else...just that my comp plays up when my pc toolbar plays up but i don't know if that and this com3 thing are connected...which is why i posted about the pc toolbar prob too.

Maybe you should uninstall the pc toolbar and if nothing changes you can rule it out as the cause and just download it again? Com3 (?)

How Do I Remove My Web Search?

First, uninstall the My Web Search option from Add/Remove Programs

1) Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel

2) Double click on Add/Remove Programs

3) Find "My Web Search" in the list of installed programs and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it. You may also want to uninstall any of the following items associated with FunWebProducts.

My Web Search (Smiley Central or FWP product as applicable)
My Way Speedbar (Smiley Central or other FWP as applicable)
My Way Speedbar (AOL and Yahoo Messengers) (beta users only)
My Way Speedbar (Outlook, Outlook Express, and IncrediMail)
Search Assistant - My Way

4) Reboot your Computer

5) Next, open My Computer, Drive C, and double-click on the Program Files folder

6) Right-click and delete the folders for:

FunWebProduct

MyWebSearch

7) MyWebSearch should now be completely uninstalled from your computer.

8) There will be some minor registry entries left behind by the uninstall, however these can be cleaned up by running SpyBot Search and Destroy or Ad-Aware SE or left alone.

Do you get online via telephone? COM 3 is generally a modem line so it could be telling you there's a problem with your connection or it's expecting to use that port but it isn't available like it's expecting but disconnected instead, etc. Sounds like something isn't hooked up right or your ISP isn't set up right.
