I'm starting to feel kind of psychotic here.

On the screen that shows when you log in, it says I have 5 friends but I don't know they are since it doesn't show any names.

Is it because someone has added me as a friend but they have for some reason chosen not to let me know who they are? Freaky.

Or does this thing keep track of who I talk to and assume that those who I talk to the most are my friends? That, my friends, is freaky as well. Still, it doesn't make sense that it doesn't show who these "friends" are. I do know who I'm talking to.

I am aware that I come off as paranoid.

I think this is the answer you're looking for...

That list of friends is because you must have clicked "Add to Friends list" on 5 people's profiles. They may not show up on the list though (and won't show names) if they're "Invisible" (status) or they're offline.

It's written really small, but there should be a link beside the title that says "Edit". You can click it, and it will list the people you've added, and you can take them off the list if you want (to do that, click "Remove entry")

hope that helps some... a lot of people don't know what to make of it, so you're not alone in that.

If I have added people as friends but they haven't added me will they show up on my friend profile. Or, if I'm on a person's friend list but they're not on mine, will they show up on my profile? Sorry if this is confusing.

If you add people as friends, they'll show up on your friend's list (or the Friends Online list in your profile).

If people add you as a friend, they'll see you on their friend's list.

But it doesn't matter if you add a person as a friend, and they DONT add you as a friend, you'll still see them on your Friends List.

i now have 6 people on my list, one of them is me, but i only see myself on the list. i don't know i must've forgotten how this worked out.

Katie, people will only show up on your list if they're online at the time (and not appearing "offline"), as far as I'm aware.

DocJohn explained it a while back; the "number" where you can't see any names is people who have added you as a friend. I have "27". So, 27 people like me :-)

It is different from those whom I've added, that's my own friends list (I think I have 4 or 5) so when I send a PM, I can just click on their name in the drop-down box and don't have to type it in. Their name and avatar shows up when I'm in my PM box and they're online so I know I can "reach" them right then and say, "Hey, what you doing?" and hope for a reply :-)
