i just bought an ipod touch and it has me thinking about how to enhance the psychCentral experience.
a lot of sites like webMD and the nytimes.com have special web apps for mobile phones and ipods. what these do is bring the user to a web page which is better formatted for mobile devices in lieu of just using a browser like safari.
other sites like gannet news' lohud.com have an 'm' formated page you can use as an url in a general browser on a moblie phone.
i don't know if DocJohn thinks this is useful for his community but i thought i might bring it up. I think it could be useful to the homeless mentally ill because most of them have phones and little else from my experiences dealing with them in group therapy in day hospital.

Actually that is a great idea. (already done im sure tho) I own a blackberry and am always check the forums when possible. Now i think its a matter of who hosts the website in general. Because cellphones only show so many frames. Like when i pull up psychcentral its a list of header links. ONe for kudos and affirmations and so on. When the page loads it says "psychcentral mobile" at the top of the page so while it does not support frames, it gives links to each room. which for me is great. Tried it on my friends flip phone. Same thing.

Hope this helps.

We do have mobile stylesheets that, if your phone supports them, are automatically used when you visit either the main PC site, or the forums.

Not all phones, unfortunately, support them automatically (or there may be better ways of determining that it's a mobile phone, that large companies can afford and we can't). I've visited the main site/forums on my mobile and get the right stylesheet for phones automatically. But because there are so many different mobile platforms (more than a dozen), we can't test this functionality like we can web browsers.

Thanks for the suggestions, tho!

with my ipod, i logged on to pc and did not get a mobile stylesheet. ah well.
gannet newspapers have a special url for their mobile layout. it ends with slash m, so you can always type it in. i guess i can't expect all resources to attack a problem the same way.
DocJ-
thanks for your timely and courteous response.
