PC is beginning to look more and more life Facebook. Most of the gimmicks they have ask, for your cell number! Yeah, like anybody with half a brain is going to give out their cell number!

Don't like it! Don't like it! Don't like it! Surely there are better ways for PC to make money than these cheap scams!

If you want to continue not having to pay a monthly fee to enjoy PC, you'll have to deal with the ads, I'm afraid. Most of them are algorithm-based and keyed to what you're looking at, for the most part, so it makes sense that there would be an ad for a dating site in Relationships, for example. It's not like Doc sits there 24/7 and hand-picks every one that pops up. Here's an explanation from one of the more common Web ad programs: https://www.google.com/adsense/suppo...en&answer=9713

Everything in life has a price....directly or indirectly. The price of using everything here for free -- or on any other major blog or website not owned by a multinational corporation -- is advertising.

Advertisements? What are they?

Don't tell anyone, but in my browser's Preferences I have it set to "Block Web Advertisements". The only thing I see on the log-in page is a very small text word:

advertisement

It doesn't always work, but usually it does. Anyway I never buy anything from a Web advertisement.

Good posting! There is also the option that if you've got Firefox as your browser (and AdBlock as one of the add-ons) that you can right click any image, find out it's base http:// address and then you can individually block those advertisements. AdBlock also automatically blocks images from certain websites from appearing automatically (they have a list of blocked websites/images).

It might be just me... and I've never blocked the advertisements here... but I don't see any at all?

If you keep yourself signed in all the time ie. tick the remember me box you will only see the advert once when you come on PC.

Yes, I am using the Google Chrome browser, which I love, and think I only see an ad when I log in or am not in the forums; don't think I see any in the forums. But I say "think I see" because I don't notice :-)

I never see any ads either, but I am logged in all the time so maybe I did what Pegasus said. I don't remember logging on originally, lol. But I do know that when I come to this address, I'm logged in. Sorry it's bothering you Sept. I hope you find a way around it so you can enjoy it more here.

I don't go into Relationships anymore so there's no reason for me to get a dating service. I haven't taken the Sanity Score in ages, so I don't see why someone is daring me to take the IQ test. I just thought we were higher class than Facebook.

"Higher class" than 160 million others who have a Facebook account? I dunno... that pretty much sounds as mainstream as any website online today.

As others have noted, advertisements only show to you here:

1. If you're not logged on
2. Once a day, the first time you access the site, if you are logged in

Our business is a very simple one -- advertisements pay our bills and without them, I doubt we could do half the things we do or offer such a reliable, stable community platform that is free. We're certainly not Facebook and don't make $800 million a year in revenues.

If you see an advertisement that you find offensive, you can help us get rid of it by emailing us through the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of every page and telling us specifically:

1. What page you saw the offensive ad on (the URL of the exact page)
2. What text was in the advertisement (copy and paste it if you can, or type in as much as you can of the offensive ad)

We have some control over getting rid of what some might find as offensive ads (some, but not all).

Thanks,
DocJohn

I think too, PC is such a big, good, diverse site that there are more, and more diverse ads, so seeing the obnoxious ones happens less often.

I must stay logged in all the time....using Mozilla foxfire most of the time & I don't recall seeing any adds....have popups blocked, so I don't see much of anything that I don't want to see.

Nothing has been obnoxious here that I know of......really do appreciate the way PC is handled.....it is very high class.......Thank you DocJohn,
Debbie
