Has anyone ever tried any medications for cptsd? I'm considered quite high functioning, as in I can hold down a job and do most things. I avoid most social situations but I can still meet a friend outside. I know therapy works well for trauma but are there any medications that help? I'm on beta blockers just for the physical symptoms of anxiety and atarax to help me sleep. I think I dissociate in times of stress or when I think anything is dangerous so I don't know if medications can be of much help...

My understanding is, it would be treatment of symptoms, Wolfie. Could be varied, from just one type of med, to a variety, depending on symptoms. AD's, mood stabilizers, et al. Depends on the individual. Are you considering a treatment provider or looking at alternative solutions?
I could be wrong, about medication regiments for c-ptsd, but I'm sure there's others with more info. Sent from my LGMS323 using Tapatalk |

I take beta blockers occasionally and diazepam occasionally when my symptoms are particularly overwhelming and only when I need to be able to hold it together for work.

I was diagnosed with depression before PTSD and anxiety. 2 antidepressants, an anti-anxiety, 2 for sleep and at 2:17 a.m. I can't remember the names. No benzodiazepines though. Maybe I should lie down.

I take Effexor for the anxiety and Seroquel for the intrusive thoughts...well, both of them help the intrusive thoughts I guess. My other meds I can skip and not suffer immediately but either if those two if I miss more than a dose I am a PTSD mess.
It does seem to be different for each person though. I had to go through basically every antidepressant there is to figure out that Effexor is the best one for my issues.

My pdoc prescribed Prazosin for the PTSD and panic attacks/anxiety. It also helps with the nightmares and helps sleep in general. Its meant to be a blood pressure med but it has made a huge difference for me. I've done benzos and eventually got hooked on them and had a horrible detox when they started causing rebound panic attacks.
With sleep, it was recommended to me not to focus on the fact that you aren't sleeping. It stresses you out more. But to let your mind relax and go wherever it wants.

I take an antipsychotic (zyprexa) and antidepressant (lexapro). The antipsychotic works well for anxiety and mood issues, but doesn't help with the trust, relationship and inhibition side of things. It's certainly helped though - it makes me feel more grounded.
