I noticed there were several post here on the forum from people asking if they have complex PTSD. This info may help some of you put together the pieces. I also want to share this because there can sometimes be a lot of confusion around this condition.

This would be good info to also share with your loved ones.

I am glad that after all this time, we are better able to differentiate PTSD from CPTSD but, saddened it has taken so long. Too late for me to reclaim that which was lost but, not for so many, many others. My heart goes out to all of those have the knowlegde and time to reshape their lives.

That was a really good and to-the-point article/description of c-PTSD. I definitely fit all the stuff in there. Maybe not the emotional flashbacks quite as much, but then again, I do go immediately into the same stupid loop whenever something happens that reminds me of past things. Hard to describe it.

I have just secured a new therapist and we are going to delve into this complex PTSD subject matter as it pertains to my life. I am frightened by it but at the same time I am excited as I feel that my true diagnoses all stem from CPTSD.

Thank you for posting this info. I hope each of you find the answers that you are searching for as you struggle down this difficult path. I know I am praying for a miracle as I need to heal and be whole.

I have found Pete Walker's book "Complex PTSD from surviving to thriving", an excellent resource. I can't read much of it at once as I just end up crying. Partly because it challenges my perceptions of my parents as "wholely good", but also out of relief that someone understands and can explain my stuggles.

Thanks for sharing SkyWhite. I could only read a paragraph at a time as I found it quite triggering to read. But, I will slowly work my way through it.
Thanks for this!

This was helpful. Often have felt guilt, shame and frustration because I haven't been able to make progress. Like juggling, I've coped in one area but then another area I start slipping, memories come up and my response is different....whoops, my functioning decreases and everyone including myself is frustrated.

Another one of those really confusing occasions for me. I just read the first post, thought it was really interesting and started reading down through the posts. I then saw one I had posted and I have no recollection of it at all.

Does anyone else experience this?

Thank you so much! I was misdiagnosed as bipolar for fourteen years. Then I took a couple of test and like magic! I was upgraded to CPTSD.
If you are bipolar with a history of child abuse, they automatically slap that other personality disorder on you. I got so sick of having DBT rammed down my throat I went to the patient advocate.

There are always grey area's in these disorders, but when it is so easy and simple to test people-why don't they?

I have to go to the VA tomorrow and see my 'trauma' shrink. I'm taking this article with me. I'll let ya know how it goes.
