For me it was, the first time totally effective. This time it was to an extent. It gave that person to talk to between sessions with a counselor. I guess it depends on what you need. The first time was my sole source of counseling by email and that worked out very well. The second was kind of like a forum between the counselor and myself, and she was like a booster support. She was actually more supportive than the f2f counselor.

I've not done it, but I consider it from time to time. My only concern would be my tendency to read negative opinions into things (I always wordy people are mad at me),and it's a bit more difficult to talk myself out of that without non-verbal cues.

Yes you do miss that body language and clues on how a person is responding, I'm sure the T's have that problem too until they get to know the online client better. The ones I used finally figured out to read between the lines with me. It wasn't an intentional thing for me but I would tend to share part of the story. Thankfully they were skilled enough to ask the right questions to get the rest, which I didn't mind sharing....just didn't type it with the rest of the information
