Hi everyone,

After spending quite some reading and introspection, I decided to comparmentalize and deal with every issue I think I have alone. just focusing on one issue at a time and try my best to address it and heal it if possible.

This is why I decided shame, more specifically Toxic shame as described by Jhon Bradhaw, is my utmost priority. The Psycology of Shame by Gershen Kaufman Im currently reading is maybe a very deep book that handles shame as a state of being. I found the book to be so deep, and sometimes disturbing, because of its heavy psycoanalytic approach. However it lays the foundation of the shame spiral and why we feel most of the time worthless and inherently defective.

I found the book to be sometimes difficult to read, and I had to focus a lot and go through it very slowly to understand it. I don't know if any of you guys have read it before, Im really looking forward to exchange some thoughts and discussions on this seminal book about shame.

Thanks a lot
Thanks for this!

I read this book by gershen a few years ago. It was a heavy read, but i could really relate to it. One thing i remember talking to my therapist about was gershens concept of distaste or disgust.

Hi Leomama,

Yes definitely highly recommended, I think most of John Bradshaw's work is influenced by Gershen Kaufman, but the book is a heavy read, need to be digested and thought about a lot. hope you can read it and we might share some discussions together.

best wishes
Thanks for this!

Hi Unaluna,

Yeah, I think you mean the disgust and dissmel. I'm relating to it too. Its heavy read as you mentioned, but I think its important because we need sometimes more deep, different language to illuminate the issues we are experiencing. Part 2 focus on therapy and I'm willing to advance through it very slowly to absorb every detail there.
