Kati Morton has developed a Crisis Text line, available 24/7
Here's the link to find out more about it.
Crisis Text Line - A free, 24/7 text line for people in crisis - Your Mental Health Community
"WHAT IS CRISIS TEXT LINE?
A free, 24/7 text line for people in crisis. Simply send a text message to 741741
WHO ARE THE CRISIS COUNSELORS?
Crisis Counselors are dedicated, trained, supervised volunteers from around the country. After a rigorous multi-stage application process, background check, and graduating from our training program, each volunteers 4 hours every week (all at once or in two 2-hour shifts). Supervisors (who all have master’s degrees or PhDs in psychology or social work) oversee the Crisis Counselors.

HOW MUCH DOES CRISIS TEXT LINE COST?
We do not charge texters. If your cell phone plan is with AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, or Verizon, texts to our short code, 741741 are free of charge. If you have a plan with a different carrier, standard text message rates apply.

I HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE WHEN I TEXTED IN, CAN I TEXT IN AGAIN? You can text in again, if you are experiencing a crisis. However, you should not feel dependent on us. Crisis Text Line is not a replacement for long-term counseling, in-person therapy, or a friend.

IS CRISIS TEXT LINE ACTUALLY ANONYMOUS?
Yes. Crisis counselors only know what texters share with them, and that information stays confidential. We take your anonymity seriously."

Hey! Just want to clarify that the Crisis Text Line is not directly affiliated with Kati Morton. She created an amazing YouTube video to answer questions about our service, though!

I think this would be a great service for teens, as well as people who don't like to talk on the phone.
Thanks for this!

Absolutely. I don't like to talk on the phone, but I don't text either. I still have a flip phone

CTL isn't new. We have long linked to and promoted this service from our helpline page:

Helplines & Lifelines

Crisis Text Line's actual website: http://www.crisistextline.org/

But it's so simple, you don't need to go to a website to begin using it. Just text HOME to 741741 from anywhere in the U.S. and you'll get a text back from a trained counselor. It's an amazing service.

(As well as the equally valuable Crisis Chat (CrisisChat - Home )).

Stay safe!

I watched the video with Kati yesterday. It made me want to become part of the team. Maybe after I get my own issues under control.

Doc John, what an honor to have you here When I said new it was new to me and Kati Morton just started telling people about it. I had never heard of a texting crisis line. I think they all are wonderful and any resource we can talk about may help someone who thinks like I do and not be aware of other options. Reb569 had a good point since more people are using social media that this may actually be a more comfortable situation for todays young people. Thanks for chiming in on this.

Thanks! Maybe, I do think I need to get myself fixed first and continue working to get my daughter the help she needs first. With my educational background I think it would be an easy fit for me. Currently though with my daughter's struggles, and my highly active CPTSD, depression and anxiety, I don't think I could take something like that on. It's something to look forward to though.

Thanks for chiming in here and clearing that up. I can honestly say if it had not been for video on this I would have never know about a texting crisis line. I'm sorry I gave her the credit. I was just so excited about it I over looked that

Oh I agree that we need to fix ourselves, but then again I think doing something like this may help speed that along. Just like other members here that write to others , it's a part of healing to do that. When I first came here I was still too hurt to comment on someone else's post like I do now. It's taken a while to get here. But you will know when the right time comes.
