Analogies for CPTSD- My T has often used the stuffed closet , the door pops open and all this stuff falls out. It has to be cleaned out and organized before the door will shut again.

To me it's more like a well packed , stuffed suitcase, you tote it around with you all the time and then all of a sudden the zipper breaks and most of it (traumas) falls out. You try to put everything in again but it will not fit, plus the zipper is broken and can't hold it all in. So you live life trying to stuff things back in constantly from then on.

Do you have your own analogy to CPTSD?

It's like being in a movie theater and not knowing which movie is about to be played. Is it a good memory? Is it a nightmare? Is it a comedy? Who knows.

It's is a movie. A movie that shuts off and leaves you feeling the impact of what you can't see.

So what you can't see impacts you more than what you did see?

Yes. I experience the memory up to a certain point, as far as remembering it visually. The memory shuts off and the screen goes black at the point that it feels dangerous. Visually it's gone, but I experience the memory of it viscerally. I feel it and have to ride it out.

You know those commercials about bladder control with the cute little bladder that follows the lady around, pulling her away at the most inconvenient time for a bathroom break? Well I have a little critter following me around doing the same thing, except its not for bathroom breaks, and he isnt cute. LOL. Kind of like a gremlin fed after midnight.

I find it very telling that I get tremendous satisfaction lately from cleaning, organizing, and improving the look and feel of spaces. I watch episodes of "How Clean is Your House?" on You Tube and skip to the end to enjoy the release.

Also, minimalism has washed over me like a cool, refreshing ocean wave and I've released about half of my belongings to create more space I can move around in. I even cut off all my hair, going full Dench. It's an excellent sign of the times.
