Whoa. Read this article about hoarding, it can be attached to PTSD.

I'm like the anti-hoarder. BUT both my parents have hoarding tendencies and I grew up with all that clutter and mess around me. So now clutter and mess reminds me of my childhood and I freak out.

My mom is a hoarder as well. I'm not like those shows on tv...yet but it could get there and I'm hoping not . Congrats on keeping a tidy house. Are you for hire ?

I am exactly like the tv shows.

My mom is a hoarder. My maternal grandmother was also a hoarder.

I am reading a book, the life-changing magic of tidying up. It has some helpful ideas.

LOL You wouldn't want to hire me because I constantly throw away things I later need because I'm so anti clutter. IT has gotten me into a bind more than once.

Why do we hoard though? Is it genetic? Why would people with PTSD find hoarding beneficial?

Oh crap LOL Disregard that last then LOL I think I would be as irrational as those people on tv about someone else coming in and throwing my stuff away. I'm trying to do better though.

Seems like most of my life is avoidance activities, so maybe this is one as well. Have to remember to ask the T about this. This would be so much easier if there were not so many appendages to CPTSD. It's like trying to calm an octopus.

I just now came across this. I have not read it yet.

Hoarding is now a separate disorder in DSM.

I have had hoarding tendencies for a very long time preceding my trauma in 1999-2000 that caused my ptsd.
