How do you think someone would respond to a smear campaign if they didn't have complex ptsd?

For me whether it's at work or in my personal life, when I find out someone has painted me in a negative light to other people behind my back I feel furious.

I wonder what a normal reaction to that would be. What do you think?

Well I think anyone would be upset and hurt about that no matter what? I think it would hurt me more than anything, and I would isolate from those people. But that's probably another one of my avoidance behaviors coming through. Maybe he healthy way would be to confront the people that matter to me as to what was going on?

Post your question on that sight and see what she says.

Confronting people who have been manipulated by a narcissist never ends well.

Can you explain what you mean by this a little more? Are you saying the people that are "smearing"you have been manipulated by narcissist people?

About 11 years ago, about a year after I started at my current job, I had a very bad situation with a co-worker who had a habit of dumping stuff on me so that she could take long lunches, leave early (she was salary), go talk for an hour with her boyfriend, stuff like that. I finally put my foot down one day and told her no, this is your job, you do it, I have my own job and have been working overtime just to keep from getting too far behind. She filed a complaint with the division director, who after discussing the situation with us both in her office basically backed me on it. That began months of her talking crap about me to several other people on the team. I knew they were doing it, because I had people tell me about it and, when I walked by them while they were all talking, they would suddenly stop. It was a really bad time. I started having panic attacks at work and started taking different routes to the break room or storage room so I didn't have to walk by them. It got to the point where I told my supervisor that I was looking for another job because of what was going on. That made her take action and she of must of told the director who must of talked to the gossiping witches and it finally stopped. The one who started it moved to another position, and I still work with two of the others. Don't trust either one of them at all.

So for me, yes I get furious, but I also hide that and tend to isolate myself. Luckily, this hasn't happened again.

Sounds like you got entangled with a narcissist and their monkeys.

"Smearing"? That reads as mocking my use of the word.

I'm going through a smear campaign against me right now, and I don't have PTSD.
My feelings personally range from:

Anger
Helplessness
Despondency
Frustration
Sadness
Depression
Indignation
Hopelessness
Shame
Worthlessness

It's sad that this is what a smear campaign can do to you Smear campaigns and complex ptsd/ptsd
I think some of it depends too, on who started the campaign. Who was it that started the smear campaign against you? An ex, a friend?

Yes. Who started and also how they act when they need something from you too. They act nice and then go back to backstabbing as soon as they can.

I'm sorry this is happening to you.

Neither. I don't know what to call him. He said something about me to a person I introduced him to and this person believed what he said without checking with me. I'm furious.

That's the hard part... seeing friends fall away from you and you have no idea what's being said and why they all believe it....

That's not it either. It's knowing what he did that infuriates me.
