I beleive science is a part of religion. I am a Irish Catholic religion person so you know the idea of that. I think God is science and works through science, just my own thoughts rather than the catholic thoughts. thats my 2 cents

Oh man, I need to prepare for this event. It's going to be glorious and spectacular. I am thinking about buying at something like a pair of those special glasses that allows you to view things like this in perfect safety.

You know, in the days of yore, our ancient ancestors probably saw such events as world ending because they didn't understand the science behind such astrological phenomenon. I mean, imagine you're from a hunter/gatherer society back 10,000 years ago. You'd have the crap thoroughly scared out of you if the sun started disappearing behind a big black disk in the sky right in the middle of the day.

So, yeah, eclipses have been seen as an omen, or portents, by many different societies over the history of human civilization, so yeah, it's probably become ingrained in our psyche to at least find them still a bit unsettling.

Seriously? When there was a partial solar eclipse back when I was in elementary school, I think it was in the early 90's or thereabouts, they had school open and did lessons on the way the earth and moon moved about the sun and we all went outside to view it when it happened. The whole school. Then we went back in and had lessons again.

Some classes made pinhole cameras to observe it, while other classes, like mine used special viewing glasses. Well, there were only a few pairs so we all had to take turns.

You should go. I'm sure there'd be some cool shadows if you stayed, but the totality experience is a once in a lifetime sort of thing. I also live a little distance (couple hours) from the totality, and my whole family is making a day trip out of it. It's literally one of the most incredible things that one can see.

Honestly, people are too overly frightened about all of this mess.

North Korea is about as big of a threat to the rest of the world as my 14 year old cousin. It's hard to take their idiot narcissist of a leader seriously because the guy has the emotional maturity of a kid and kids make poor leaders in a country. I say we should just do the entire world a favor and bomb them and be done with it. Every other first world country likely wants the kid tyrant gone and bombs are the most effective way of dealing with such a problem. If he tries to launch a nuke, nukes can be shot down.

I also don't think that nuclear wars are a threat because all humans value their own self interest above all else. If a nuclear war broke out it would threaten everything all humans (including those that are actually in power) hold dear. No human; especially not one who has the cunning and intelligence necessary to usurp a position of authority high enough to where they would have the power to launch a nuke would make such a decision because it would threaten their own self interest and position of authority.

So honestly, it's good for one's mental health to not worry about such things. I stopped paying attention to politics and I stopped thinking about the state that the world is in long ago and it was one of the more intelligent decisions I made in regard to my mental state. Overthinking things and pondering hypothetical "what ifs" accomplishes nothing and only brings those who do it more potential suffering.

Worry about this is only human. We all are concerned with the safety of all. The North Koreans are so brain washed that they think that the USA is actually a threat to them and they need to bomb us first. Any outside information that they get is monitored as to what they can hear. And they support their leader, or will have harmful consequences if they don't. Their leader is just crazy enough to start something though. Nuclear detonation will have ramifications around the world where ever it lands or explodes.
I think they should have addressed him much earlier, but so many thought he would never reach the level that he has. That was a stupid oversight.
Let's just hope someone call talk some sense in him and he stands down. They will have to deal with him eventually. He's not going to stop being a threat to the USA or USA controlled territories. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and how they may prepared for an act of war against the USA. I for one am making plans for survival, but that's just me.

Hoping nothing comes from this but you never know. I've been stoking up on canned goods and water, have some cash on hand in case a EMP strike which would knock electronics that run the USA, all computers, in cars, banks, gas stations, anything that runs on electronics.
Have some extra gasoline on hand, ammo, and be prepared to see the panic and worst in people come out. Will knock 911 systems, police systems, fire systems, hospitals paralyzed etc. It could be very serious. Preparing is just a safety feature and you can always use up what you have stored if not needed. Would rather be ready and not need it , than need it and not have it. Ya know?
We will just have to pay attention to what's going on and be ready to act. All communications will be knocked out and a plan needs to be made about a meeting spot if that should happen.
North Korea could be preparing an electromagnetic pulse strike on the US from space, expert claims | The Independent
This situationshouldn't be ignored, but we shouldn't panic and keep a clear head for planning.

I agree. That's why I made my previous response. Just laying it all out there with facts. No emotion present in it. It was laid out as a research paper would be so people can check it out for themselves if they so desire. I don't have any money to do the preparation thing so if it happens, I will just do whatever I can. I still believe informing people is best though. Everyone can decide to do whatever they want with the knowledge.

Well you don't need a lot of money to prepare. Canned goods, some gallons of water 88 cents, candles those glass ones at the grocery store are great, even for power outages. Make sure you have a way to light them. If you have a grill, get charcoal or gas. First aide stuff from a dollar store. Main thing in non perishable foods and water. And some cash in case the stores start selling items cash only. If you have enough warning fill the bathtub with water to flush toilets, and to wash up with. Antibacterial wipes are good also, another Dollar store item. Most of the stuff you can get at a dollar store. It's just being a good girl/boy scout

Honestly the problem is, we are lucky to have $5 by mid-month, and we only get paid once a month, the 3rd. So, the water thing we could do, but our water is contaminated already. The rest, as cheap as it is, would still be hard to come by depending on how long we have to prepare.

OMG the sky is falling LOLOL

Seriously though, I might hit up the shooting range soon and get into some martial arts classes. In the unlikely event that things go down, at least I will have the chance to exact my vengeance on everybody who has ever wronged me.

Fun times!

Just a couple points about this. 1. If the US did this, China would become quickly involved (they have stated already that if we strike first the will come to N. Korea's aid, If N. Korea struck first they would stand down) and South Korea would take a major hit. (My opinion, it is this certainty that has kept us from taking action prior to this.) Hundreds of thousands of lives, if not millions, could be lost, including US Military and their families. 2. The Thadd (not sure I got the acronym correct) system is not fully tested and in theory should work, but there is no guarantee that it would.

So my take on this? We need to be cautious and smart about this. I'm not sure our President is capable of that. I personally think that he is trying to incite a first strike by North Korea so he can strike back without China getting involved. Or, I could be completely wrong and he is just playing a dangerous game to force North Korea to back down. North Korea has already called his bluff and he made more threats in response. Who knows what he'll do next.

Yes, North Korea does think that the US is a threat to them, and the threats coming from the current administration gives them at least some validity. A dangerous "game" is being played. Don't get me wrong, as a veteran I am all for protecting our country, territories and allies and having a strong military. The events over the last few days have been over the top though and I really hope things settle down. Any type of war with North Korea would be catastrophic.

Man this thread must of triggered me last night because I must have pissed off or upset a lot of people.

This is why I generally don't get involved in politics though because it is too must of a drain on my mental state when I have no power over it anyways.

Part of me wishes that many of these countries would lost most of their power because I don't like authority figures or anybody else having that kind of power.

Still though, my behavior was rather ****** and I'm sorry. I am unsubscribing from this thread to prevent myself from being further triggered.

I'm not pissed at you in any way. I am just pointing out my concerns about the situation.

Well hopefully none of that will be needed. Your water is already contaminated? Have you applied for financial assistance?
