Anyone have this experience? Is there really a difference between the two? If there is, what's the difference? What if you have both?

From what I know:
There is a difference... Borderline involves splitting... C-PTSD isn't a 'rigid' personality-type but is more flexible and responds more easily to the correct type of treatment. A good psychologist should be able to better delineate the two. |

So if you split, it's BPD not CPTSD?

Do your research with a good psychologist, not just a therapist or a social worker, but a highly trained psychologist who can go through the DSM-5 with you and maybe the European ICD-11, if the latter it available because the latter recognizes C-PTSD.
Whether it be C-PTSD or BPD, there are therapies out there to help. DBT (dialectical behavioural therapy), EMDR tapping for instance. We can, with practice, learn to regulate our emotions and identify and manage triggers. Hang in there, MuddyBoots!! Hugs, if wanted... |

I was almost diagnosed with BPD, except my psychiatrist at the time was a trauma specialist, and diagnosed me with PTSD (really CPTSD - but went with what's in the DSM).
Either way, I did a program of DBT and it was one of the most effective therapies I've ever done. It really helped me. |

Thanks. I did some DBT in individual therapy and I was in a group before residential (got kicked out for missing too many consecutive sessions though, currently on the waitlist to get back in).
I got diagnosed with BPD years back in a hospital setting, but I had no follow up treatment and I didn't mention it when I did in-take at this community mental health center (or the last region I lived in for that matter) because I wanted a "clean slate," (i.e. not a highly stigmatized diagnosis on my current records) but since they already added it.... btw we don't have any psychologists at the mental health center, but my therapist is pretty good and my psychiatrist agrees with her.
