Occasionally my thoughts and the feelings that accompany them require a significant input of energy to deal with them due to their intensity and complexity, and consequently I feel quite sapped of energy. They're not eminently unhandleable, it just takes a lot of energy to deal with them; I often have to find some quiet area of where I am to sit and deal with them.
Ideas as to how to deal with this are welcomed. |

I feel similar regarding being zapped. I think you are on the right track when you talk about sitting and dealing with them...I complete anEmotional Intensity Continuum Worksheet
Prompting Event Objectively describe in as much detail as possible the event(s) immediately preceding this episode Emotion Name What name(s) would I give to the emotion? Describe what it feels like. Physical Sensations Describe what bodily sensations I feel (Fast heart rate, sweating, shaking, etc.) Thoughts State the thoughts present during the episode. Do not Evaluate, Challenge, or judge them. Filter What filters do the thoughts fall under? What themes are present in my thoughts? Action Urges What do I feel like doing in response to the episode? What is my reflex reaction? Behavior Describe what you did during the episode. __________________ Direction Ripple Effect - Small things can make a difference |

Sometimes i cant handle the drain. Im almost frozen in time and unable to even take action until it is imminently endangering my life or well-being.

When I don't feel ready to deal with something at least halfway gracefully, I prefer to leave it for a while and go do something else. Most of the things I've dealt with the best, I've dealt with "in the background". The "something else" I do could (but doesn't necessarily) mean taking a nap. Here's another example.
When I've tried to deal with something in a way that seemed to require a lot of energy, more often than not I've found my thoughts going around and around in pretty much the same closed loop with no sign of a way out. The way I tell that I'm dealing with something I am ready to deal with, is I seem to get more energy from it than I put into it. |
