Well, lori, I think there are a number of things you can try that worked for me which may possibly work for you too, though of course we're all different. I think you're in the right place to get as many suggestions as possible.

I had spent several years living with those "ideations" before I got into therapy, before I could AFFORD therapy that is to say. And after six months of therapy those ideations were down very sharply. Within a year they were almost gone. The only medications I was on were anxiety pills like xanax and lorazepam.

I guess, for me, the most important mental change was to accept the fact (because it is a fact) that there really were and are real-world, HERE-world solutions to my problems. That I could reduce and eliminate the pain I felt without leaving this world. And to do that I had to accept the fact that the problems really weren't OUT THERE in the world, but INSIDE HERE, in my head. The problems I had were really problems of thinking and feeling, things over which I did have control, though I didn't start out feeling that way. I talked with T, whom I trusted and admired. I journalled, at her request, and wrote down every day all my thoughts, good or bad. Then I'd bring her my journals and let her keep them. That's what she asked for, that's what she got.

I've now been in therapy since the summer of 2010, and I must tell you, I'm doing fine. Making progress all the way down the line. It's really fascinating what goes on in people's heads, in YOUR head. And how, if you change a few screwy thoughts, a healing process takes over and pretty much helps you get well without your even doing anything. I'd love to be able to do something outright that makes me feel better, but I'll tell you that most of it happens back in the backroom there, by itself.

Well, I guess that's pretty much the limit of my wisdom. Hope I've helped a little bit. Feel free to PM me or leave me a message on my profile page. And you take care of yourself, now. You CAN get better. It happens all the time.
