Sorry if you find this completely out of place here but this quotation really made my day, and I want to share it with all those of you who have learned to first cast doubts on yourselves and not on those responsible.

However, I'd say that surrounding yourself with a**holes implies low self esteem in the first place and in so doing, you'd pretty much caused your own depression :-)
Defeat isn't bitter. . .if you don't swallow it.

It would have been nice if I didn't have to go to school during my whole childhood, then I could have been away from the 'a**holes.' who helped contibute to my depression and low self esteem. Currently I do not feel I am surrounded by a**holes though there are some in my family and my moms boyfriend is a bit of one but he's ok sometimes.
However, damage has been done by being surrounded by a**holes, thing is I didn't have much choice I could have just ditched class most of the time but I don't think that would have worked out too well. But yes it is important to try and get away from people that bring you down, unfortunatly its not always an option in every situation. Then sometimes there are the a**holes who act like your friend and then stab you in the back thing is usually at least in my case I don't know about their a**hole nature until the back stabbing. Also, I would argue even if one is surrounded by a**holes that does not necessarily indicate a lack of depression or low self esteem. So I am not so sure I really understand that quote too well. |

True, Perna, and it is my response ability to do something about it like accepting that their dis-ease isn't mine. Easier said than done when we live in world where the social need of acceptance can seem so hard to find. |

I mean... sometimes the the a**holes flock to you and surround you, of their own self initiation, then you're really not in a good position! Sometimes you just have to put on your shades and look at them like "Do I know you?" ![]() (Metaphorically of course, or maybe literally, whichever way you take it) |

With regard to the A++holes, I think there is always something in each of them that I want them to give me, unconsciously, something that I had never got from another a++hole in my life, like for example, acceptance or support or understanding. a++holes are those who are unable to give you these things but rather give you the opposite and thus confirm your early experience. |

Surrounded by them...but at least I am aware of it now, not blaming myself and trying to live up to meet their ********ness. It really quite impossible too because ********** are never hsppy. They will find fault with everything. Fruitless endeavor on my part. They can stick together and be miserable together, though. Good times

Well, sometimes they do a very good job by playing the good-guy role or the true-friend, just to suck the happiness out of you! However, once you understand you're surrounded by them, it's up to you ![]() |

A holes tend to take that mentality far out of proportion. Be careful.
