Hi mrcharmander.

I think your going to have to provide a little more info. I don't know what you mean by stopping a lot of the time.

When I have difficulty dealing with something like anxiety; I admit it to myself and start from there. "Okay, I'm really anxious". Working against something that is automatic and cannot be controlled (feelings) like that can't really win so I acknowledge that and see what I can do with the feelings instead of against them. The feelings are information, trying to tell us something and I think repetitive feelings are like repetitive dreams and mean we aren't listening/paying close enough attention to what they are saying but just trying to get rid of them.

What does it mean to be anxious when you are; are you anxious about any other people, the uncertainty of the situation/future, your own responses? See if you can tease out a bit more detail.

How is your diet and sleep? Have you had too much caffeine or sugar, too little water, have you had a physical with your doctor including blood and urine tests to make sure your hormones and vitamins/minerals are at the right levels and you are physically okay?

Anxiety is imprinted on us by our culture. It sells in the news. We are exposed to anxiety every day in our culture. Stay centered in Now Time and asked your self if Anxiety is rellevent to what is going on NOW.

It's easier said than done but whenever you are in a situation where you feel overwhelmed by anxiety, try to break your daily task(s)/goal(s) into little steps and start doing things that are manageable. For instance, if you have to prepare for an exam, start by looking at the table of contents of a book. Then if you can, read the first page. Or if you are afraid of riding the subway, start by looking at a photo/movie of a subway. The next day, imagine being on one. A few days later, walk to the subway station.. you get the idea. Celebrate each step, no matter how small it is. And don't pressure yourself. From my experience, it's best to accept that each day the anxiety level is different and you have to adapt your schedule accordingly.
Other things you can do everyday to support yourself is deep breathing exercises, group therapy or talking with someone about your struggles, getting lots of rest, exercising, avoiding stimulants (caffeine, cigarettes, alcohol) and most importantly take time for yourself. Hope this helps a bit.

Luckily for me anxiety passes quickly or regularly never lasting for more then a couple hours and rarely all day. I just remind myself that this feeling will pass too. Some times I can cycle thru various moods in just a couple of hours. From depressed, to anxiety, to anger, to extremely happy. Nothing ever lasts. What I have noticed is the happier or higher I feel, the harder the fall when it does happen. I just remind myself this feeling will pass soon.
