Hi, For the past several months I have been battling fear. The fear comes in waves throughout the day. It feels like adrenaline rushes. The fear can range from fear of loved ones dying to fear of inanimate objects ( for example, I suddenly feel afraid of a chair, or of my bed). I'm on Zoloft, Seroquel, Lamictal, Klonopin, and mirtazipine. I would think that with all the meds, something would help out with the weird fear-thing.
Anyone out there relate? I'm also wondering if the fear is more of an anxiety thing, or if it's a delusional symptom. Thanks for your help. |

i think i can relate, i don't know what causes the fear... to me it seems to be something around not knowing what to do and not having any coping mechanism that actually works..?

You're correct...I don't feel that any coping mechanism I use has any effect on the fear at all. I feel like the fear is physically-based, which is why I'm upset that the meds aren't helping much.

I've never had that exact fear (like of a chair) but I've had irrational fears. Could the meds be contributing to this fear? I used a lot of drugs at the time of my fear, and when I reduced/stopped the drugs, the fear subsided.

Good question, Sugar. I've had a number of medication changes over the past 5 months...it's hard to know, at this point, what is what with regard to my meds. I'm seeing a new p-doc the first week in March. I hope he's a good one.

Apparently whoever moved this thread to the coping with emotions board thinks that what I've described is an anxiety-based emotion

Anxiety and fear are pretty much the same thing. I think you are wondering if its just from having an anxiety disorder or if you are getting delusions that are more psychosis based?
Its hard for of us to say as we are not in your shoes but I can relate to irrational fears. Not of objects but of terrible things happening to me that are not possible when I think more rationally. So it could be that your severe anxiety just makes everything seem so frightening that now even harmless objects are scary or the frequent change of meds has effected it or there is some other mental health issue going on. Speak to your pdoc and see what he/she has to say. I would say though that you seem to know' that your fear of the objects is irrational and I would have thought that if you were truly delusional you wouldn't necessarily know that? just my opinion. Good luck and take care

Hey Verity, thanks very much! It makes sense to me to consider that my fear is an extremely amplified anxiety. I will definitely discuss this when I see my p-doc next week. I believe that SOME kind of medication will help....I mean...c'mon. No one should have to be this anxious/afraid.
