Hello guys and gals

So on Thursday I went to group counselling, I volunteer for this charity in the office because I am still coming to terms with how to deal with emotions. I.e when i'm in a room with people, they get upset.

Volunteers lead the group counselling session and one girl was my age who had done a psychology degree of some sort and the other works for the nhs.

So i'm sat talking to people nicely and dealing with SA well, it's going alright, i'm feeling quite proud, it gets to my turn on what i've been up to...

Some of you know i've been reading up on Asperger syndrome, my ex had Asperger and he is still a close friend (when i want him to be) even today, and during uni I was asked or nudged to get tested for it myself.

So I explained that could the GAD, SA, Depression and ED issues be a cause from the effect of AS...because i've dealt with it the wrong way for so long, if I may have mild AS... Of course as people who unfortunately endure MI issues or LD's, I guess (well with me anyway) by reading about them could potentially make one think we have some traits of the disorder...because it's all subjective as i've been told and read. So I addressed why I thought this - the sensory dysfunction issue mainly (used the social struggles as an example and information overload) and the girl said 'it's really good that your reading up about AS but try not to generalise your symptoms into this one thing' - HELLO *WAVES YOOHOO's* -Uh already been diagnosed with three things already here, it was just a suggestion. I can see how she is trying to practice her 'fake understanding gaze and approach' on me, but she really picked the wrong person that evening, I went there for support, not to be mocked, as i've been really depressed lately wondering what the hell is wrong with me.

How should I feel about this? Please give me some advice or perspective, because right now i'm feeling angry and upset.

Thanks, Liah

This group therapy that seems to heal. As you experience this process you are going to feel as you did. This normal. Some times "Support" is not the best thing for healing. Mention to the group you are seeking some support, during this process.

Thank you, I did mention it to them and the volunteers still continued to probe me, which makes me feel more mad everytime I remember the experience! Thanks for your wise words

Go with your feelings. If you are feeling "Controlled" time to find a new group. Controlling members, some times can get in the way, in group therapy.

Definitley feel somewhat that way,
I wish the volunteers would listen to us and not mock us, or see it as a competition if they feel threatened by eachother.

It is just sad, we go there to feel wanted and supported, i'm just going to move on, thanks Bow

Perhaps a group facilitated by therapists would be more helpful.
