How do you know when your emotions have gone past the realm of being normal responses to a situation to be fueled by the bipolar disorder? Is there something that lets you know that maybe you are on the verge of getting sick because your emotions are just too strong for what the situation is? Also. I rarely drink--I used to years ago, but nowadays, I drink so infrequently that I don't even know the normal reaction to expect from booze. I drank last night and became very emotional--very angry. It scared me. This has never happened to me before...I'm always a happy drunk. Do any of you experience this?

Welcome to Psych Central. There are signs that may be more obvious to an outside observer when bipolar is in control. It can be the mania of feeling invincible or the depression of feeling miserable and hopeless.

Here is an article that helps explain this further
What?s the Difference Between Bipolar Disorder and Depression? | Psych Central

Drinking is self medicating and it is like gambling at Las Vegas, a crap shoot. One can get manic or depressed. Are you on meds for bipolar? Combining meds with alcohol is not recommended and can lead to side affects.
