I can't take compliments beyond the most mildest, the more heartfelt the compliment the harder it is for me to hear and receive it. It's almost painful for me, I blush, can't make eye contact and want to be out of the situation asap.
I have been teased about it, some people seem to find it funny/cute but it feels anything but that. If I could control my reaction then I would. Anyone else experience this? Any coping strategies? ![]() ![]() |

Aloha Prefab,
Ohhh, yeah, I understand! Been working on this one for my entire life. A compliment to me is like like crytonite to Superman. I just shrivel and want to hide when anyone says anything positive to me- ARGGG So, although Im not that good at it, here is what I have practiced for many years which has helped make it a little easier. When someone slings a comment at me, I.... take...a...deep...breath...in.... and inhale that compliment into my heart....feel it fill my heart and try to believe it. Trust that the person saying it, means it. Yes, its still uncomfortable, but it has helped.
