I think emotional abuse is the hardest kind. The wounds are on the inside and the anger because of it is very hard.

Glad you are here Blueknight emotional abuse is the worst in depleating any self confidence one has. Getting away from the so called bully is step one. It has taken me years to accept what happened to me. You too will feel and get better with time.

I would say emotional/verbal abuse is the #1 thing that causes low self esteem especially in children and teens. That continues through to adulthood. Even if it started when you are an adult, it definitely effects your self image. You can only hear bad things about yourself from someone you love long enough before you start to believe it.
