I've never experienced happiness. The type of happiness where people are so happy they have tears. I've never had this emotion and don't know what it feels like. I'm obviously not human.

I think those tears are more gratitude for the good moments, or a joyful experience. I have cried in gratitude when something has made me happy or joyful.
Synonyms for happiness are: pleasure, contentment, satisfaction, cheerfulness, merriment, gaiety, joy, joviality, delight, good spirits, lightheartedness, well-being, enjoyment, exuberance, exhilaration, elation, ecstasy, rapture, blissfulness and euphoria. According to Happify.com: “The research suggests that happiness is a combination of how satisfied you are with your life (for example, finding meaning in your work) and how good you feel on a day-to-day basis. Both of these are relatively stable—that is, our life changes, and our mood fluctuates, but our general happiness is more genetically determined than anything else. The good news is, with consistent effort, this can be offset…you have the ability to control how you feel—and with consistent practice, you can form life-long habits for a more satisfying and fulfilling life.” In my own opinion, I believe that happiness for each person is subjective. However, how you define being happy and what brings happiness are two different concepts. Some may define happiness as being successful in their careers, or having all the money they need to afford all the things they want. Others may define happiness as being a parent, or taking care of others, or perhaps being able to just make it in life, with life’s main essentials. I think given the synonyms listed above, it is evident that feelings of happiness indicate a state of being – a state of elation or a state of overall contentment. So, happiness is more so a state of being... a state of being that can be cultivated, if worked upon deliberately, each and every day. I run a blog on happiness, and in my own personal opinion, happiness is something we can deliberately choose on a daily basis by setting a certain positive mindset.... such as today is going to be a great day.. then going about deliberately making the day great by choosing positive thoughts over negative ones, by avoiding drama and negative people, and by letting the little things that bother us slide more, and by not letting the bigger issues ruin our state of happiness or state of contentment. You are very human.. a lot of people struggle with being happy.... |

Happiness can be so simple though. Peace, freedom...there is happiness to be found in all you only need to realise it to feel some!

I am not always happy, in fact because of my finances i am not happy. I think a good chunk of money would make me happy right now, it would solve many of my worries right now. I do know money doesn't buy happiness or love but boy it sure could help!!!

Some excellent thoughts above. I in particular was drawn to the suggestion the the feeling of euphoria is one that extends beyond that of happiness.
I have experienced so call euphoria. When it was beyond my grasp I really beat myself up for losing it. I was very unhappy as a result of overly high expectations I experience that again. In fact, for pretty much five years I was pretty miserable. All that time there were things though I was ignoring that could have made me happy. It is not so much that I have lowered my expectations so that they are beneath me as much as discovering that happiness could be achieved without 'demanding' it. I've changed my life. I realise it will likely never be what it once was. So I value and cherish my prior experiences and move onto laying the basis for new. And this is what I think is important. We need to lay the basis for happy experience. Let's face it, it likely isn't going to fall in our laps. We need to set the ball in motion ourselves. We need to invite happiness into our lives. So go ahead and make a few plans. Start small and strive for more. |

I've only experienced it a very few times in my life. Some people just have a lower, less emotional base line then others. Maybe that's what's happening with you.

The happiness and tears thing is not entirely pleasant imo, I get it when I feel overwhelmed.
Happiness to me is good company and conversation, feeling of accord. Sometimes being in a beautiful place alone too so company is not always necessary. Music can make me happy. Maybe you could experiment a little and find what makes you feel happy. |
