I had a very stressful week with a lot of problems with my two bosses (I posted about it)... There was a brief respite and it seems that my issues with them have been addressed. However, we have a deadline for this coming Friday and are just working like crazy. I was going to take tomorrow (Monday) off for various reasons and was looking forward to having 1 relaxing day after not being able to take a single Saturday or Sunday off in over a month.

I do have a brief vacation coming up finally in a week. A friend and I were going to go to Yosemite. I said I would book the hotel. I did it from work because I'm working super long hours and just can never take care of anything from home anymore. It was a Sunday, but as usual my boss was just floating around nonstop so I was in a hurry. I went to hotels.com (NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN....) and looked through things quickly, felt overwhelmed, saw a lot of stuff was already fully booked, told myself not to be such a perfectionist, saw a condo for $111/night around Mammoth lakes and reserved 2 nights. My boss came by when I got to the final page and I was flustered and just confirmed without looking further, without reading the fine print, nothing.

So then I glance at the email, all happy that it was finally done after weeks of procrastination. At a rate of $111/night for 2 nights, I was charged $500. I've been agitated and having accelerated heartbeat all day. I managed to barely calm down after a few hours, but briefly. Now it's late at night and I'm once more in a panic. I've reached out to hotels.com several times via Chat and they keep saying it's up to the hotel whether or not to cancel. I'm wrestling between just giving up and acknowledging that I was sloppy and being really angry because I feel I was scammed. $250 in mandatory fees??? They're obviously counting on hundreds of people looking at their listing and 1/1000 of those people being in too much of a rush to read the fine print. I just don't know what to do. I'm an extremely cautious person with my money. I already am paying double rent because of a crazy work situation and am working on paying off a credit card that's higher than it should be.

I just want to cry...

If you paid with a major credit card begin a 'dispute' with them telling them what occurred and why this is a scam. They will return your money until the decision comes around. You can also run it by www.federaltradecommission.gov who deal with scamming quite a bit. Hope that helps.
Thanks for this!
