I just got out of the court hearing for the sentencing of my cousin in law's 23 yr old son. He will be serving 40 yrs to life. I'm a mother of three myself. But yet i find it difficult to find any word of encouragement to say.
What do you say to a mother in this situation? |

That’s a tough question, but I think just letting the person know your there if they need a listening supportive ear is beneficial, also to know you care for them.

Sometimes, just being Present for someone is doing/saying a lot!

Just how close are you with your 'cousin-in-law' that you feel obligated to say something about this?
Does this individual have close relatives and friends who are going to be offering their emotional support? __________________ "Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it" |

Not extremely close. Just wanted to show our support by showing up to the sentencing.
She had some support from other family members Last edited by lady411; Mar 27, 2018 at 05:59 PM.. |

Was 'moot' supposed to read as 'not'?
If so, don't fret to much about having to say something or find 'the right words'... You won't be looked upon to do so by the individual in question... Also, just your mere presence as the sentencing says enough about your consideration and sympathy for the circumstances and the parties affected... __________________ "Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it" |

Imo, being there for your cousin as time passes is a lot more important than when all of this drama is occurring (now). Let her call and/or come over when she's feeling ____ down the road. People often disappear after the drama's over. Do what you can to be there for her.
