Who gets triggered by a certain song? There's one song that I cannot listen to and I cannot even deal with seeing the name of it writ down anywhere, going to trigger warning the title of the song for my own protection.

Possible trigger:

The reason I find that song so triggering is it was playing on the television the day I said goodbye to my snugglebug Dylan

I have tears in my eyes right now even remembering that day

Am I the only one who has a song that triggers me to the point where I feel like
Possible trigger:

I'm triggering myself now so I'll get this posted and go do self care

Yes I have a triggering song also, Whisper. It's much worse, I think, when the trigger song is related to loss, like yours. My song sounds really stupid but it's Me and Mrs Jones.

I don't, but I'm sure a lot of people have. So I'd say it's a pretty normal thing

Yeah, I do. It's a quick way for me to have a flashback and/or just break down. Sometimes I listen to it to see if I still feel and to emotionally self-injure myself. Probably not the healthiest.

Yes, certain songs of Van Morrison remind me of my ex-wife and even his upbeat tunes once made me sad sometimes. But I still stream them.

It’s odd and it’s queer but I feel non-manic happiness now and can listen to those songs and only feel a bit wistful. Twenty-one years gone and I still miss her — she was the smartest, most interesting and beautiful woman I’ve ever known.

I miss her. Terribly. She fell in love with someone else. He moved in the day after I moved out.

So it goes.

In general, love songs can trigger me. I don't mean to upset you, but the one in your signature is high on that list, especially since Titanic was such a sad movie for me and thinking about it makes me very sad. I just have to make a conscious effort to avoid reading your signature knowing it's there. I have some other songs that I really like the tune of that if I'm not in a perfectly happy mood I cannot listen to them or they will make me very depressed just because they're love songs.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a specific song, but I do get triggered often by music in general. It just reminds me how worthless and hopeless my life is and how much of a failure I am at everything.

I have many songs that trigger me. I love music and each person who has mattered to me has at least one song. It's not even necessarily the lyrics. It's just the song.

Last Kiss by Pearl Jam for my dad.
Spirit in the Sky/Dust in the Wind for my mom.
With or without you for an old friend.

I could go on and on. Sometimes I'm fine and other times it just hurts.

Off topic now, would it help if I take it out of my signature? I don't want to trigger you (or anyone)

It's not a big deal, I just don't look at it. Thanks for the consideration though.

Maybe my mind is just weird but I make associations between people and various things, not just songs.

The songs I associate with people only inspire negative feelings. Mostly they trigger an incredible anger....
  • "Your Star" by The All-American Rejects + "Promise Ring" by The Tremolo = My emotionally abusive ex (who I was planning to marry before I realized his abuse)
  • "Freakish" by Saves the Day + "Blue and Yellow" by The Used = My psychotic college roommate who I cared for (naively) in the same way a psychiatric nurse would... The stress and inevitable failure with the situation triggered my depression.
  • "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas = The "theme song" for my grad school class... A degree that ended up being unusable because the school screwed up.

Ironically, "Panic Switch" by Silversun Pickups usually brings on a panic attack in me for some reason.

However, the worst musical association for me is anything by the band Vertical Horizon. They were a friend's favorite band and after she was killed, I couldn't hear their music without crying and, if I heard it in a store, having a sudden urge to run out of the store. It took me 15 years to stop crying when I heard their music and I'm now attempting something like exposure therapy to stop cringing when I hear them. I think it's working...?

There are a few that make me cry like a baby, but I listen to them anyway. It is the same with some movies, and shows.

my trigger song is also related to loss

with me, it goes a bit further than that.. because I get triggered by any song from that artist

the sad part is, that before the triggering event, I loved that song- because it was nice and has nice lyrics/ melody

their's also a radio station that I can't listen to because all the songs on that were my mother's favorite, and are related to my childhood abuse

Songs always leave this strong mental imprints on us it is sad I cannot listen to some of my favourites song because it will remind me of my ex and my relationship with him. Songs have this hefty power on us, and our memories I guess.

There have been lots of trigger songs for me over the year. With some, the sadness faded and I could listen to the song again. Others I will probably always make me a bit sad. ❤️
