https://www.reddit.com/r/NotHowGirls...his_one_today/

This is an example above, and a lot of people keep going “it’s just a harmless joke” and “it’s funny because it’s true”, when someone points out a joke is overused or not funny.

“No idea why someone is taking this serious enough for this subreddit.”

“Nah that’s funny. It’s a harmless joke.

I’m fine with stereotype jokes like this because they aren’t harmful and clearly jokes.”

“r/memesOPdidnotlike”

“Dude it's obviously meant to be a joke and its a harmless one at that, grow tf up”

The idea that bad jokes should be defended while demonizing people who criticize them is so bizarre. It sickens me how people think just because someone finds something offensive that apparently means they can’t “take a joke”, they “take everything too seriously”, and they just need to “grow up”.

It’s annoying how people believe they should get away with offensive humor just because they view others as a bunch of “snowflakes”. This needs to be called out more. They might think it’s a harmless joke, but they’d be singing a different tune once they know what it’s like to be in another person’s shoes.

There are very few that crack jokes as much as i do, and my sense of humor is dark. Yet the ideal of a joke is to make people laugh, not to be insulting to anyone or group. I find no humor in that. Anyone that defends such things is as bad as the individual that throws it out there. There are instances where joking at groups in a harmless way, is okay. but everyone including those in group knows it's a joke. This is one we used to tell in the army, as an example; "Did you hear about the Polish secret agent that got injured badly? Yes, they burned their lips badly in an attempt to blow up a car using its tailpipe." I was stationed in Poland for a short time, some of the greatest people ever, and it is so silly, everyone knows it is not mean spirited. I heard this one constantly about us while there, "Do you know why Americans are of no real danger in an operation? Cause all you have to do is throw a $20 dollar bill to distract them as you make your escape." Again it is silly and nothing is meant by it, we all laughed at it. That picture from Shreddit is not funny, you will find a great deal stuff like that on there.

I 100% agree with you there. I was told the same thing earlier by a guy who didn’t understand why the joke he told was offensive, and I tried to explain to him that the joke was sexist. He replied to me with “I don’t see very many men who are sexist/hurt women”. When I called him out for it, he stated that I did the same thing towards men and that I’m not aware that it hurts them. It was frustrating as hell at how hypocritical he was being.
