New to this forum. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I have a pet peeve and have had so for many years. Why do only people with mental illnesses take 'meds', or 'medication' or are 'medicated'? Holywood doesn't help - "they're off their meds!" Venting. I never took meds or medication. Actually, I suspect I was medicated though. Sorry. Venting. Years of not being able to talk to anyone.

Very good point. That phrase, "She's off her meds," has been used in film and TV and books and other print so many times we could never count them all. I consider it to be a demeaning, pejorative, unsupportive, negative refrain that labels and stigmatizes and it should be expunged from the lexicon.

you make a valid point! and it truly is negative labeling -> "they should be on meds" or "they're off their meds" or "they need to be medicated".....
that's one of the reasons i DON'T tell people about my MIs! and i can say i've been MI-med free for eight years now (multiple reasons, one major reason though) |

As a person who has been on meds for a few decades what would you like us to call them? |

I'd like them to be called exactly what they are. Prescription medicine, Just like prescription medicine/for thyroid, cholesterol, etc etc etc, People who take cholesterol medicine aren't on meds or are medicated.
