I'm helping her sell stuff. And well she's moving from the home my parents built. I'm feeling like I'm loosing part of my identity. She's moving 40 minutes away. Currently 15 minutes away. She'll be in a smaller place, closer to my brother. It's kind of sad. We were getting close now that's going to change.

40 minutes isn’t that far. You can still visit each other and also have space from each other if you need it.

I think this is a thing we all go through - losing our childhood homes. It's okay to be sad and grieve. But maybe it will be better for your mother to be in a smaller place and closer to your brother. And like OE said, it's not that far to visit.

Yes, I agree in that your mother selling her home, the family home and moving can feel like a part of you is being taken away.

Geographical closeness and emotional closeness isn’t the same thing. You can live next door, and be strangers and you can live thousands of miles away and be very close. 40 minutes is nothing. At some point we all leave childhood home and move on with our lives. It’s ok to feel sad saying good bye to childhood home but it’s also ok to have a new beginning.

It's sad to realize you can't go home when she leaves. I guess that's like any other loss. What were some of your favorite memories of being home? Mine was my big back yard with lots of trees.

I'm sorry it sounds difficult. You have memories of the home, good memories etc. Is it possible to take some photos of the childhood home and create an album? Unless its too painful.
Thanks for this!
