A few weeks ago, my boss really unnerved me by commenting that he saw I hadn't voted yet. So then I realized for the first time that all that info is public record and there are aps that make it easier and easier to access. Truthfully, the aps don't bother me so much as my boss and another coworker who really just like to dig into people's lives. It doesn't matter how friendly and open you already are with them--it's like no amount of information is enough. For example, my colleague likes reading people's divorce papers online and then comes to the office joking about what she read. These are people we all know, people who work in our same building. It's not like it's illegal, but it really distresses me. I'm tempted to block her on LinkedIn. I don't mind my LinkedIn being available to my other friends, but she's just the only one who would visit my page late at night just to see what's changed or if there's anything I'm doing she doesn't know about. And she's the only person I know who would be capable of looking up every single one of my contacts just out of curiosity for who I might know.

Right now, I'm going in circles imagining them getting into my face about my voting record. I've actually been moderately active, but probably not enough for them. No, I have not voted in every single election since I was 18.

After I voted this time, I texted my boss that I'd voted, with an "FYI." I was more chill about it at that time. Now a few weeks later, I'm having trouble sleeping. I've always been really tense about keeping my information private and not giving people cause to hassle me. I'm just waiting to come into the office and get confronted/"teased" over every election I did or didn't vote in. How do I tell them to leave me the hell alone?

I don’t think it’s in a job description how many times someone voted. How could people see your voting record and why would they even look????

There's an app called VoteWithMe that literally tells you the voting history of everyone in your contacts. Not who they voted for--just what elections they've voted in. Honestly, it was reading about that app last night that got me really agitated. It's slightly controversial. Some people think it's a good way to pressure others to engage in democracy. But I'm just a person who's very private and I don't feel that everything that's in the public record should necessarily be made so easily available. Marriage records are also public record, but I'm not about to make an app that tells you everyone in your contacts who's in a same-sex marriage.

As for why...some people are just really nosy. And I'm not good at handling it. But I think I just need to tell my boss and my colleague to go F themselves if they get in my face about my voting record. Unless anyone has a better idea.
