Ever felt like don’t matter what you do that you are gonna be analysed with a (not sure how to say that in English, ...with a different lengthen stick. Because, in the end, you are the one who have psychological issues. Your rational thinking is distort, isn’t it? Always? Isn’t it?
I know many people don’t find a clue about how to deal with us but in that case, go past your way. I don’t need you to treat me as I am a weird bug (I have enough with feeling myself as that). Go past your way and don’t tease me up. If you are not able to understand beyond, go on your way. You’re losing your time and losing my time. __________________ Social Anxiety and Depression. i have never experienced this firsthand but i don't find it hard to believe that this can happen, even on a regular basis. i am So Sorry for whoever is feeling belittled, especially since mental illnesses are something people don't have a lot of control over. They are illnesses like others. Try not to pay too much attention to this kind of comments. They come from a place of ignorance or malice most of the time at least in my opinion. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @AzulOscuro, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

Yes I have felt that way, AzulOscuro. I don't really have much to offer at the moment, but you are much more than your diagnosis. I took a peer class on recovery, and its message was that we are people first. Our diagnosis does not come first in our recovery. Hugs

My gastro doctor was the first person I’ve met in a long time who just dismissed everything as my anxiety and mental health issues. All he did was go through my meds and ask what they were for. He did give me some nausea meds which are helping me. So I don’t understand if they actually are helping the nausea how everything can just be my mental health.

My husband was bullied a lot in life, not just in childhood but as an adult. It’s not like he chose to have Tourette’s or can control it. Well he can. But only up to a point. Some stories just so upsetting. He’s learned to deal with it but no one needs to endure such thing. Like sure it might be challenging at times to deal with a person with Tourette’s but don’t you think it’s harder for the actual person???

I had serious stomach problems once years ago and doctor insisted that it’s stress related. He said I looked stressed. I said I look stressed because I can’t keep food down and run to the bathroom all day long. My stress is caused by my stomach problem. Not the other way around!!! I had to look for a different doctor to get my stomach issue fixed. |

Thank you for not letting his mental illness dilute your love for him. Too many people look at the ill and injured and dehumanize them. |

I am just saying he’s been bullied by ignorant people due to exhibiting Tourette’s symptoms (noises and movements that could be irritating etc). It has no effect on our life But I agree with you in regards to it possibly stopping people from getting involved with someone and dismiss someone without getting to know them. Heck when I first was talking to my husband over the phone, I didn’t know yet he had it but I was thinking “dang what’s those noises he makes, must he do that on the phone”. Glad I didn’t dismiss him! |

I guess it must be so hard as it is for people who suffer from stutter. Anyone who may be considered as different may be the target for being dismissed or being bullied. This is how human sadly may be sometimes. __________________ Social Anxiety and Depression. Cluster C traits. Trying to improve my English. My apologies for errors and mistakes in advance. I haven’t really experienced this, either, but i totally believe you. In my experience, it’s the issues themselves which have been dismissed. They’re both just as damaging but I can see how it happens.

Many people find hard to understand our issues. They can’t be touched or smelt or seen in many cases, so they don’t exist. So, I agree with you. It maybe very harmful, too.

Gastros are notorious for blaming everything on stress that they cannot explain. One told me I had irritable bowel syndrome due to stress. When I stopped eating dairy products the diarrhea stopped. Later on I was diagnosed with lactose intolerance.

Exactly. I had an infection that made me sick and I was stressed because that doc would not send me to do any tests. My infection was not caused by my stress! When I switched doctors and got proper treatment my stomach worked just fine and my stress was gone!

Anyway, we can’t forget physical health is influenced by mental health and vice versa. There are lots of researches about it. I think the problem is with Western Medicine. Many professional still resist to a holistic approach to health.
Having said that I only have positive things to say about my experience with doctors. I even had a primary assistant doctor who guessed my physical problems were somatisation of a depression. Then, the stomach doctor before telling me that my gastrointestinal problems were due to anxiety and the influence it can has on the digestions, he first prescribed all kind of physical tests before discarding a physical desease. He had no idea about my depressions or anything related to this. Indeed, I haven’t been diagnosed by my psychiatrist by then or take antidepressants or anything similar. So, I think there are good professionals in general. __________________ Social Anxiety and Depression. Cluster C traits. Trying to improve my English. My apologies for errors and mistakes in advance. I usually have a good experience too. This doc was trouble. He was prescribing wrong things to people for money. After I stopped seeing him, he was on the news and I think he was arrested. I couldn’t believe it. I was like wow isn’t the same dude

Most people I know haven't dismissed me. All the dismissive ones I have met are psychiatrists.
One particular psychiatrist I met for a consultation wanted to refer me for a neurological assessment for suspected temporal lobe epilepsy. I refused, since I had one done about a decade earlier at a hospital. After that he got hostile with me and started talking about a staff psychiatrist that I dealt with while at a children's hospital (that place was horrible). He suddenly asked me how many times I was admitted to hospital. His words were, "15, 20, 25 times?" I could not believe what I just heard. His behavior was inappropriate and repulsive. I told him that I didn't want to complete the consultation and left before the 50 minutes were up. I realized, I met this man while he was a resident in 1994. If I had recognized his name in Oct 2006, I would have never allowed my family doctor to refer me to him. My doctor was stunned when I reported my experience with this psychiatrist. I told her that he was extremely rude. It probably had to do with the misdiagnosis from that children's hospital and my interaction with him when I was there. Now I am very careful who I reveal my history to. Doctors have to earn my trust. __________________ Dx: Didgee Disorder |
