I was wondering if someone could post some helpful self soothing practices from DBT.

I respectfully request no posts about the ''situation'' in the world in this thread, thanks

I personally do not have experience of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (CBT -- yes), but here's the first site that appeared in a brief search: Self Soothing: DBT. I like the idea of organizing the suggested techniques around all the senses.

take a bubble bath, light candles, relax. warm a blanket in a dryer wrap yourself in it. listen to music. go for a walk. Anything that would help you feel secure, loved.

I love this list Aviza.

I'd like to add: watching a light-hearted movie, scrolling through positive and inspiring images on pinterest, making an herbal tea - the practice of making and sipping it.

What always worked for me was a hot shower. I envisioned my stress being washed down the drain. I had good smelling candle in my bathroom that helped relax too.

I would also distract myself by watching a movie on my computer that made me feel good. Also just going to bed & hugging on my special doggie who sensed my stress & now my cat who curls up next to me when I am stressed always helps.

Another for me is sitting in my family room & watching the birds come & eat their seed or watching my raccoons & possums eat in the evening. They are entertaining & really take my mind into a different place. Lucky I am surrounded by nature on my farm which has always been a soothing environment for me. I took my DBT learning & applied my own environment to what worked for me
