I'm taking a sign language class. Its finished next week. Its been a good experience. We don't wear masks due to the nature of communication. But the seats are also very close together. I signed up to take the 2nd class. There's a small part if me wary and cautious though. I do wonder if it will go to a virtual platform, since cases are upticking again.

I've had a lot of covid scares this week, and I'm still worried and fearful. I practiced ASL with a partner from class last Friday. I found out on Wednesday she had covid and from the info she gave me, I deduced she found out last Saturday. She didn't even bother telling me - I'd been the one to reach out to her. I took an at home covid test yesterday, and I was negative. I will take another one tomorrow.

I also went to my Aunt's house for a family get together yesterday. My cousin's gf was there and her child was home sick with covid. It doesn't seem safe to me. I am supposed to go over there for Easter on Sunday, but I'm very unsure of going now. Both of my Aunts don't respect my mother's fear of covid (she's not going over there on Easter, nor did she go over for the gathering yesterday). They think its stupid bc "if you get it it'll just be a mild case" and they "trust the science," whatever the **** that even means. They clearly don't respect ppl's boundaries though and can't relate to anything outside of their own minds.

I really really want to see my little cousins / nieces again, but I may be more comfortable just settling for a phone call that day.

There's more. Lol. I went to the mechanic this morning and no one wore masks and they all were either getting over covid or know someone close to them that has it - like live with them.

1.) I think I need to start wearing my mask again no matter who I'm around for the most part. I feel like so many ppl are comfortable not wearing them, I don't want to be mocked or anything. My own extended fam doesn't get it. But I can't change the amt of empathy others have. I can just control what I do.

2.) I may ask for my money back for that 2nd ASL class, if they don't go virtual, unfortunately. Or transfer to an adult ed class that is okay with wearing masks. Unfortunately. Its a great class.

3.) People have told me it'll probably be a mild case if I get it since I'm vaxxed x3. But we don't know for sure. I'm sorry but a.) I want to avoid getting it if I can and b.) I want to avoid transmitting it to other people.

I am wondering if my fears sound valid though.

I think you are entitled to feel and think whatever you do. One thing I’ve noticed as restrictions ease is that everyone responds a little (or a lot) differently. I have heard some people passing judgement such as they believe everyone will get covid and therefore we should get on as normal. I don’t personally understand this attitude- I understand they may feel this way about it themselves and that’s fine, but why do they feel they have the right to judge how others may feel or think.

To me it comes down to respect. Respecting others may feel and think differently, which is due to a whole lot of factors.

I hope you managed to come to an understanding where your family gathering is concerned, and that you’re feeling okay about your choices with your course too.

I think fears are neither valid nor invalid. It’s like feelings. You just have them. They aren’t right or wrong. If you are uncomfortable without a mask I encourage you to wear one. Many do.

Personally I use very little limitations in my life and mostly live as normal right now, mostly because my husband and I worked in person all through pandemics and work with people now so we can’t limit interactions with people who might be potentially sick, we just don’t know. So I might as well live as normal outside of work.

But I respect those who are more cautious. My best friend had GBS and is immune compromised. She only now started to do things like going out (she works but that’s a a necessity). I respect her choice. I have other friends who are very cautious. I am fine with that.

I often wear a mask depends where i am at. Nothing wrong with that. You do what you need to do.
