I’m not really doing anything because I have to work New Year’s Day, but I have come up with some resolutions. Usually, I’m not a big believer in New Year’s resolutions, but I’ve made some this time because I really, really need to make some changes. One resolution is to develop a life— I really need to do more things outside of work, like take up hobbies and get out and meet people. I’m not talking about dating because I’ve pretty much given up on that area of my life. I’m just talking about doing things i enjoy, like hiking or ice skating, learning new things, being exposed to more people… as opposed to working and vegging out when I’m home, which is mostly all I’ve done lately. Another resolution is to use my rowing machine— starting three days a week and working up to five. I have a fatty liver apparently and I’m scared. This would be a good first step at self-care. My third and possibly most important (also probably the most difficult) resolution is to be more compassionate towards others. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a warm and compassionate person; I realize this has come out in some of my posts and I’m sorry for that. I am going to be better. A pharmacist at work told me that forgiveness is important not because the other person deserves it, but because the forgiver deserves peace. I feel the jury’s out on that, but it’s an eloquent statement regardless. I will be better.

I admire you for your desire to improve your life. People like you have always been heroes to me. Sometimes the greatest heroism is not the kind that makes the news. Sometimes it is just the pushing through difficulties. Sadly I have yet to make out my resolutions this year. I would like to be meeker person. It will be difficult but I aim to try. Good luck with your resolutions and I want to wish you a Happy New Year!

Thanks guys I’m very flattered to be thought of as a hero, although I don’t think I honestly am. I had to take a mental health day today as I am really burnt out from work. I will be better tomorrow.

It’s hard balancing things with a demanding job- you’re being wise taking a mental health day.
Thanks for this!

Thank you again everyone… so far my results have been mixed lol— I’m scheduled to attend two social events this month courtesy of Meetup, which is a lot for me, so that’s something. Using the rowing machine has been somewhat successful, but as I predicted, being compassionate toward others is proving to be the most difficult.

Interesting idea, but what exactly would i put in it? Would I be tracking it in my post, delving into why I have trouble with it, etc.?

Maybe ask if people have experience with increasing compassion, and if so, how they did it?
Thanks for this!
