Hi! So I've been having an inferiority complex for more than 10 years. Dealing with several emotional traumas, depression, anxiety, and CPTSD.
Brief personal story: I'm almost always feeling like I'm never enough or almost always wrong in someway, comparing myself automatically with anyone I see around whether it's about intelligence, popularity, attractiveness, career, adoration, etc. I also realized that I almost always compare myself to a specific group of people I felt inferior to when I was still in my teenage years. It's getting really tiring, but I have no idea how to stop. Suicidal thoughts often happen, and I feel very unproductive. How do you usually handle your inferiority complex? Pls share your stories. And also know that you're not alone ![]() |

You are enough. You have exactly the good qualities you need.
I have found that everyone feels inferior sometimes, measuring themselves against others. Obsessively thinking about something is called rumination. There are tools to help stop doing this, like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

I’m not gonna lie to you. It’s not a short process. I have also depressions and suicidal thoughts and one attempt.
As I see it, it’s inevitable to compare ourselves with others, the input we receive from others has an impact in our self-esteem, especially when this is not strong. The less you compare yourself with others, the better? How to get it? Focussing on yourself. There are many techniques and therapies you can do. People like us, with such a poor self-esteem need some kind of support or guide. It’s all about a journey to discover yourself: Each person is so rich in principles, mental skills, physical skills, treat with others, hobbies, skills, hopes, desires, strength…they make you unique. Only, you can’t see it or some of these things haven’t been put into practice. They are only in a potential. First of all, learning the mind to stop ruminating through relaxation, meditation, I like mindfulness practise. Your mind has to rest and get used to see it’s only its job to think and think. Fulling your mind of thoughts for the sake of it. You can get it to put it at bay. Then, making achievable goals (short or medium long term). Set up activities to do frequently to achieve these goals. Don’t forget to include intelectual, laboral, relational, physical or self-care goals and especially, those activities that can lead you to enjoy and keep time for yourself. Little by little. Write them down on a notebook. And don’t forget to be nice to yourself. That’s the way I overcome my low self-esteem. I thought literally that I was the last person who was worthy on Earth. I swear you. And as you say, you are not alone.
