So I did it— I get a seasonal job in a warehouse and I’m giving my notice on Monday. My resume looks like crap anyway, and I just need to reboot. I will not work in pharmacy anymore. This new job doesn’t pay as well as my current job, but it pays well enough and it has benefits. I will have something to tide me over until I figure my **** out. Nothing specific happened recently to make me do this; I just had an epiphany and realized that life is too ****ing short. I’m not going to spend it working a job I sincerely hate. I’m going to take this seasonal job and then use my free time to get into the illustration field. My mom already knows and she is accepting of the situation. My dad won’t like it but screw him— I know that’s disrespectful to say about one’s dad, but he’s elitist, snobby, oblivious, and ignorant about anything whatsoever is outside of his professional sphere. Besides, this is my life, and I’m not going to waste it being miserable. I feel a bit nervous— for the past 8.5 years I’ve worked in pharmacy. It’s a bit like I’m pulling the rug out from under everything. But I really need this.

That sounds like a good plan. I always feel sorry for the people working in pharmacy. They should be paid a lot more for their work, good luck to you.
Thanks for this!

Good for you. I was a prison guard for three years with TONS of MANDATORY overtime. When I went through those gates, I literally did not know if I would go home in eight hours or 16 hours. That's no way to live. I then got a hum-drum M-F office job. My dad thought I was nuts giving up all that overtime. I was like, "Dad, I just got married, I'd actually like to spend some time with my wife." Oh well. It's my life, not his.

Live YOUR own life on YOUR terms.
Thanks for this!

Absolutely your choice, sometimes we have to break away from outside influences and do what we feel is right. Others may disagree but their opinions are their business not ours.

Good luck with your new job, I actually know a couple of people who got warehouse posts and love them.

I was a computer programmer for most of my working life, which was i assume very left-brained and regimented as your pharmacy work. I was probably happiest during my stints of OTHER work which were more physical and creative. So i applaud your foray into other endeavors.

Nice, sounds like a good step. I agree, you can screw your dad's opinion. Do what you gotta do to take care of yourself.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing. Your mental health is more important than trying to keep a stressful job that you hate. Don't listen to your father. It sounds like you'll be able to pay your bills and will have some free time to explore other options, which is great.
Thanks for this!

Thank you for the support and the vote of confidence everyone. I hope this works out. My car broke down yesterday while i was driving home from work. I managed to get it towed to a car shop. I really hope it’s fixed by tomorrow.
