Default T-Giving in the States

I said I'd be here, here I am. Well, actually, I'm headed to bed, but I'll be here tomorrow (Thursday, T-G).

I do not miss the dinner thing; I'm not a foodie and it makes me feel sad to think of all those zillions of poor turkeys. This year, however (not for the first time, but hey) I am so flat broke this week that I am scraping through to find normal food (well, semi-normal, anyway) to get through the day. I am clueless when it comes to Friday and Saturday as far as what I'll do; Sunday I will get some food assistance, apparently, thank the Universe and the State of California. But! I did have the foresight to buy a small berry cobbler and save it for T-G, so I do have that to enjoy.

I dunno. What's so hard about the holiday stuff is the grief it brings up. Remembering people I wish were still here - as well as remembering, sharply, certain holidays (when I was a teen) that were anything but festive.

Anyway! Hello and welcome!

For the first few years that I have spent the holidays alone, it was a bit uneasy. It was quite an adjustment to spend the holidays alone after having a lot of years being with my family for it. In my younger days, being with my family, the holidays were nice. The reason is was so nice was because it was the only time of the year we could be more together and put our differences aside. The rest of the year, not so great. So for the first few years I had memories on how nice it was, even though I was happy to be away from my family.

I have gotten all over that years ago and that's a nice feeling. But the holidays are more of a burden than a blessing to me. This week, when I went to the stores to pick up a few things, it was crowded. In being retired, it's nice to shop on the weekdays because of not having to deal with the crowds. But this week it seemed like companies and schools had let out and I hated it.

It's a time that I feel like I have to put up with people and noise and I've never been into that at all. Pretty soon it will all be over.
