Writing a memoir is not a linear project. I was similar, writing rough drafts of memories in no order, over and over. Just allowing them to drift to the surface and recording them. I started with eighteen on the first draft I've completed.

I was not ready for a relationship,
And after rehab,
A person does not drink.
My life had fallen to disarray,
And putting on glad rags
And putting on a brave face
Was the last thing
I felt like doing.
I faced enough criticism
So thankfully I was
Not a young man because
A lot of young guys tend
To think that sex and alcohol
Is conducive to mental health and moving on.
Forget about the last b###
Who broke your heart
By getting drunk and laid.
We all know these types of men.
Those with FOMO - fear of missing out.
Anyway, I had been in ward number four.
It does not instill a person
With confidence or
Act as a people magnet.
People find it excruciatingly awkward
To spend a lot of time
With someone in recovery,
Incase they upset you
By saying the wrong thing.
They know you don't
Want sympathy but
They feel bad that their
Life is going great and yours... Well,
For the time being,
It has gone to the dogs.
They have heard the stories
And the conspiracy theories
About the hospital rehab.
And of course the
Stories in the media,
Do not help the deep set stigma
Embedded in society.
People need to wake up
And see that every single person,
Is completely different.
Practice what they preach.
Around here, a person
Who thrives after
A mental health struggle
Is thought of as a one off.
These misconceptions
Could not be further from the truth.
In a nut shell, the common
Fallacy is that everyone
Who has a spell in rehab,
Is then destined to be a waste of space.
Everyone around me thought so.
In the eyes of most
I had no future.

As long as I stayed
With an abusive person,
I would never heal.

People to be sacked
From jobs for being

On a busy day.
If a manager feels

Power trip they will

They know that
Jobs are hard to come by
But do it anyway.
I did not take it personally.
