Is there anyone around the forum right now with DPD?

I have a new diagnosis and so many questions, but it seems like there's next to no info online, and my therapist hasn't been very forthcoming either. It would be so great to have someone to talk to.

Say hi if you're here!

Not sure if I have DPD but last year my psychiatrist put in the notes something like "evaluate for dependent personality disorder". (I go to a VA psyciatrist and she talks to me 30-40 minutes each time which is great but also writes everything down. so I censor myself more now. ). I do depend a lot on my husband and try to be appreciative by doing things for him. I dislike direct confrontations (they cause me a lot of anxiety). I do not know if this is a personality disorder. Perhaps it is just our temperament; however, I wanted you to know someone is listening to you! Hi!

Well... I don’t see a shrink since they write everything down and we only are given 15 minutes here in this forest. I wonder if I might have traits of this but maybe I’m just me (I don’t much like labels although they can be useful if they are used to access helpful therapy etc)

That's the only real use for a label, though I do like them in that they help me understand myself better. The question I have about DPD is whether the helplessness is just a feeling, or there is really something about us that makes us unable to live alone.

Maybe it's more about the circumstances/relationships that we have experienced. Perhaps there are people in our life that have power over us and changing the dynamic would cause more problems. I think a lot of mental health issues are caused by stress/financial insecurity or greed/bad family traditions (the traditions may have started to deal with bad times for our ancestors) that have been passed down for generations.....

That describes my situation pretty well.

Hi. I can relate... I was diagnosed with it a while back. I don't always have it actively but right now I definitely do

Hi! I've been diagnosed with this as well, but I have doubts. I mean, well maybe not, but I know a major factor of it is that my husband is the breadwinner and drives me to appointments...well, the latter might be a combo of me thinking I need him as well as him preferring that I not be alone when going out. But yeah so the agreement we made was that he's the head of the household and makes the money and makes most of the decisions. I do let go of issues I have sometimes because I don't want to rock the boat if you will, but at the same time, I often simply just trust his judgment. So, is the dependency a choice or a personality disorder. I think both, but more so a choice so I wonder if I've been misdiagnosed. Anyway, I'm here though and as you said, this isn't a very well known disorder, so any insight we can share with each other is great!

Also, just want to put this out there, anyone on this board who wants to PM or friend me, feel free! Take care!
